Trends of Transformation God breaks out & gets people’s attention The message is delivered through His people  “Christ died for our sins & rose again to give us new, lasting life.” The message is bolstered by varied evidence  Subjective evidence  Objective evidence You must repent to be transformed  This involves a NO and a YES!  Acts 3:19  Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord

 Acts 3:19  Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord You WILL BE OPPOSED if you seek to embrace these things!

Acts 4:1-3,5-7 1 The priests and the captain of the temple guard and the Sadducees came up to Peter and John while they were speaking to the people. 2 They were greatly disturbed because the apostles were teaching the people and proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection of the dead. 3 They seized Peter and John, and because it was evening, they put them in jail until the next day... 5 The next day the rulers, elders and teachers of the law met in Jerusalem. 6 Annas the high priest was there, and so were Caiaphas, John, Alexander and the other men of the high priest's family. 7 They had Peter and John brought before them and began to question them: "By what power or what name did you do this?"

Acts 4:1-3,5-7 The Opponents 1 The priests and the captain of the temple guard and the Sadducees came up to Peter and John while they were speaking to the people.

7 They had Peter and John brought before them and began to question them: "By what power or what name did you do this?" The real opponent was SATAN!

7 They had Peter and John brought before them and began to question them: "By what power or what name did you do this?" Acts 4:12  Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.

What opposition do we experience? Incompetence 2 Cor. 3:4-6  4 Such confidence as this is ours through Christ before God. 5 Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God. 6 He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant--not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life. God delights to use incompetent people

What opposition do we experience? Despair Would God offer hopeless messages designed to get me to give up on the very mission He has given me?

What opposition do we experience? Shame “God’s army attacks the enemy line bandaged, hobbling on crutches, and with arms in slings.” -Dennis McCallum

How did they flourish in opposition? Owned the Promises of God Matt. 5:10-12  10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11 "Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. 12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

How did they flourish in opposition? Sought the Applause of God Acts 4:19-20  19 But Peter and John replied, "Judge for yourselves whether it is right in God's sight to obey you rather than God. 20 For we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard."

How did they flourish in opposition? Prayed together with their fellowship  Acts 4:23-24a  23 On their release, Peter and John went back to their own people (fellowship) and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said to them. 24 When they heard this, they raised their voices together in prayer to God.

Features of their united prayer "Sovereign Lord," they said, "you made the heaven and the earth and the sea, and everything in them. 25 You spoke by the Holy Spirit through the mouth of your servant, our father David: " 'Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain? 26 The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers gather together against the Lord and against his Anointed One. ' 27 Indeed Herod and Pontius Pilate met together with the Gentiles and the people of Israel in this city to conspire against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed. 28 They did what your power and will had decided beforehand should happen.  Centered in the Power, Word, & Purposes of God

Features of their united prayer 29 Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness. 30 Stretch out your hand to heal and perform miraculous signs and wonders through the name of your holy servant Jesus."  A clear request for more courage and ability to engage in the mission!  No request for protection (not primary concern)

Features of their united prayer After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.  God was delighted to answer this prayer!!!

Transformation continued on… Acts 4:4  But many who heard the message believed, and the number of men grew to about five thousand.  The opponents could not prevail over the purposes of God!!!
