2 WP 2 / WP3 – Technological & Procedural Harmonisation Tasks 2.1 & 3.1 MoMAR Observatory Current status of the Observatory (October 2014) Position: 37°2 N, 032°2 1700 mwd Mid-Atlantic Ridge Type: 2 seabed stations with near-real time link to shore thanks to surface buoy MoMAR infrastructure One node SEAMON west : geophysics study (OBS and pressure sensor) One node SEAMON east: ecology studies, hydrothermal fauna (tempo camera, Oxygen, Iron, turbiditymeter) people involved: J. Legrand, T. Carval (Ifremer), V. Chavagnac (GET), M. Fabian, J. M. Miranda, G. Reverdin (Lodyc)

3 Significant results/highlights during the first year project Observatory in operation since 2010 Since FixO3 start: 2 yearly maintenance cruises Aug-Sept 2013: MoMARSAT 2013, R/V Pourquoi pas? / ROV Victor Implementation of a new Connected In Situ Instrumented Colonizer System (CISICS) July 2014: MoMARSAT 2014, R/V Pourquoi pas? / ROV Victor Data Management and Data Access Real Time parameters: Oxygen, Iron, Turbidity, video snapshots of the base of a hydrothermal chimney, magnitude of seismic events Delayed Mode : HD video 2 x 3 min / day, integral seismic waves Hot fluid sampling triggered from shore in case of a sudden T° variation Key persons involved data management for your time-series Technical DM: Thierry Carval (Ifremer) Data validation: Marjolaine Matabos (Ifremer) WP 2 / WP3 – Technological & Procedural Harmonisation Tasks 2.1 & 3.1 MoMAR Observatory

4 Pre-deployment (procedures in short) Design issues: low power design. Get in touch with the technical team in charge of the observatory. Maintenance/service issues (periodic/after failure) Calibration issues. On a case by case basis Preparations. Set of environmental tests (pressure, vibrations, shock, …)mandatory. Functional tests (on shore test-bed) mandatory. Equipment: ? Operating Scheme/Schematic (with time intervals) Yearly maintenance cruises requiring an ROV. All equipment (seabed stations and surface buoy) retrieved, re-conditioned and re-installed WP 2 / WP3 – Technological & Procedural Harmonisation Tasks 2.1 & 3.1 MoMAR Observatory

5 Deployment (procedures in short) Means : R/V with Class A DP + ROV Maintenance on board: yes Testing/Validation of new sensors: on shore then on board Deployment procedures: too short of time to be described here.
