9. Modification Steps #1 First I created a canvas in Gimp sized 680 X 444 px to accommodate a two-page image of the notebook. I copied and pasted the image on the right hand side of the canvas. I flipped the original image horizontally and placed it on the left hand side of the canvas. I used the text tool in Gimp to create the definition of “tragedy.” I merged the layers. I placed a hand-drawn mnemonic for “tragedy” on the left and made it transparent so the notebook lines showed through. I merged the layers again so that I could save the image as a JPG.

10. Presentation Needs #1 This graphic meets my needs in that it gives a clear example of an interactive notebook in action. It is also a realistic depiction of a student notebook, which will add interest to the presentation.

12. Modification Steps #2 I used iPhoto to crop the image to delete part of the graphic I didn’t need. I used the Enhance tool in iPhoto to brighten the image. I used the Effects tool to fade the color until I felt the text stood out a little better.

13. Presentation Needs #2 This graphic image is clearer and easier to read than the original, which makes it more suitable for a presentation. This modified graphic eliminates some of the areas of the map that are not part of my focus for the presentation, which could help cut distraction.

15. Modification Steps #4 I cropped the image’s edges using iPhoto. I embedded the image in Power Point and used the drop shadow rectangle effect to create depth. I added the character’s name by creating a text box.

16. Presentation Needs #4 The image size will now fit in a presentation with bulleted text along the side if I change the slide layout. The character’s name is now identified to help students associate this character’s name with his image.
