  Games and fun activities make us laugh. We all like to laugh.  Pleasure is very motivating and laughter makes us more awake and relaxed.  If we find something funny, it is often memorable as it strikes a resonant chord within us.  If lessons are long or daily we need to have plenty of variety, while still focusing on English language development – the fun activities provide variety. The best part of learning is making it fun!

  Many games are competitive and while we do not like the idea of making children feel like failures when they do not win, team games promote co- operation and if teams are regularly mixed up, everyone’s a winner.  Games can be used as a “carrot” with less motivated students. The promise of a game at the end of class may encourage them to complete less inspiring activities well. Games

  Some activities rather than being amusing, encourage us to use our knowledge of the world around us rather than linguistic knowledge, which brings the world into our classroom.  Fun activities are a great way of getting your students involved and enthusiastic about learning.

  Remember, fun activities are only useful if they practice using English in a constructive way and your students are actively listening to, recalling, or speaking the target language!  Fun activities are a fantastic addition to any lesson and inject a good dose of fun into the classroom!

  Most people love singing along to their favorite songs, and non-native English speakers often seem to find it easy to remember the words to songs written in English. This could be because: - for young people especially, songs in English are popular in many countries as part of contemporary language and culture, and this can make them an engaging and motivating way to learn English; - songs are written in short, easy to remember, sentences; - songs engage your emotions and senses, helping to make the words easier to remember. Songs

  Listening to songs is good way to practice and improve your English listening skills, and if you listen carefully and sing along you can improve your pronunciation.  Songs are a good source of natural and creative language use, often with idiomatic expressions and slang.

  When used in the classroom the activities utilize the students’ five senses, motor skills, communication skills, create a sense of trust, and build an ensemble.  They can also be used to teach or assess curriculum topics, increase memory and focus energy.  Have fun using these activities in the classroom!
