CFU On your whiteboards, write what the author’s purpose is for writing this passage. This passage was written to persuade because this is the author’s opinion. Students, you already know that an author has a purpose for writing. An author also has to decide how to organize an essay. Choosing a purpose, audience, and structural pattern of an essay is called organizational structure. Today, we will select an organizational structure when writing. The purpose of this essay would be to persuade because I have to convince people that dogs make better pets. Kids that like animals and want a pet because I will be talking about which animal makes the best pet. Dogs are the best animals to have as pets. They are very smart and will love you no matter what. They are very loyal, which means that they will stay by your side at all times. They are easy to take care of and love to be hugged. They will protect you from danger and can tell when something bad is going to happen. Dogs make great pets and are like a member of the family. Compare and contrast because I want to write about how it is better to have a dog as a pet than a bird. This is a sample answer. Answers will vary.
