General Facts Tartu County Tartu County lies between southern and central Estonia, between two big lakes –Peipsi and Võrtsjärv. Area 3089 sq km Population 149,500 ( 01.01.2013; 3rd in Estonia) Administrative centre - City of Tartu 22 local governments - 3 towns and 19 rural municipalities Tartu County – ca 14900 companies and 3300 self-employed persons registered. Tartu is the services and logistics centre for the whole of South Estonia. Typical products are furniture, foodstuffs, clothes, building materials, glass, metal and plastics + new innovative ITC sector. Main export countries include Finland,Sweden Germany, Latvia and Russia.
