2 The Teaching Resource Links student responses on the English Online Interview with specific teaching examples Assists teachers to develop appropriate small group and individual teaching strategies based on student responses Facilitates the learning of all students from their points of need as identified in the interview

4 Identify an area of need Print a copy of the Finalised Assessment Report for each student from the English Online Interview (in tabular format) Find a literacy aspect identified as an area of need For example: Module 2: Oral Language

5 Select a literacy aspect from the report

6 Group students Use the data to group students according to need based on their response in each aspect For example: Module 2 Task 4: Words and Sounds Q1 and Q2 Group 1: Gives the name OR sound of 24-26 letters Group 2: Gives the name OR sound of 1-23 letters Group 3: No attempt

7 Identify students’ needs

8 Locate the teaching example Locate the appropriate section in English Online Interview - Teaching Resource Read sample teaching focus and strategy for each possible student response For example: Module 2 -Task 4 Words and Sounds Group 1: Q1+2 (24-26 correct letter responses): Teaching focus: extending letter sound knowledge to include simple digraphs such as /sh/ or /th/ Group 2: Q1+2 (21-24 correct letter responses): Teaching focus: reinforcing known letter-sound correspondence and introducing letters not yet known Group 3: Q1+2 (no attempt) Teaching focus: building letter-sound knowledge of all letters.

10 Develop further lessons Teachers can use the sample strategies as a starting point for further small group or individual teaching At the end of each task you will find links to the English Developmental Continuum The continuum includes relevant indicators of progress and appropriate teaching strategies For example: Writing Conventions of Writing 0.5, 1.0, 1.250.51.01.25 Conventions of Spelling 0.5, 1.0, 1.250.51.01.25
