Douglas created first graphic computer game of tic- tac-toe  William Higinbotham created the first video game ever in 1958 “Tennis for Two”  1962 Steve Russell invented “Space War!” intended for computer use  1967 Ralph Baer created “Chase” the first video game to be played on TV  In1980 Atari’s Asteroids and Lunar Lander were the first copyrighted video games

4 The Atari Video Game Crash of 1983  Sudden crash of the video game business and the bankruptcy of a number of companies  End to what is considered the second generation of console video gaming.  The crash lasted for 3 yrs & ended with the introduction of Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), 1985

16 How video games are addicting  Dopamine, a neurotransmitter associated with uncontrollable compulsion  Games bring pleasure & focus by increasing dopamine  Dopamine is more active while playing  More dopamine released, the less neurotransmitter is available later on to do schoolwork, homework, chores, etc

17 ADHD Kids  Become more addicted to games  “Not unlike drugs or alcohol, the television experience allows the participant to blot out the real world and enter into a pleasurable and passive mental state”  Will go through tantrums when they are made to stop
