1 Facts about the Trust £110 million pound turnover 1,619 staff plus staff employed by contractors 33,365 inpatient and day cases were treated 10,670 elective and emergency operators 101,124 people came to A&E 178,872 people attended outpatient clinics 2,920 babies were born in the maternity unit

2 Other services provided by the Trust An innovative haematology day unit, providing care in a home-like environment. Orthopaedics – specialists in knee surgery and sports injuries General surgery – specialists in GI, colorectal and breast surgery Maternity suite with 11 delivery rooms, including a birthing pool and three ‘home from home’ delivery facilities One of the largest HIV/AIDS units in London

3 Other services provided by the Trust A comprehensive paediatric service, including special care baby unit and two paediatric wards A genito urinary medicine (GUM) clinic Moorfields Eye Hospital outreach community eye clinic Hammersmith Hospitals Trust satellite renal dialysis unit Eight bed coronary care and four bed high dependency units

4 Healthcare Commission – Annual Health Check 2005/06 Existing National Targets Achieved – Maximum wait of six months for inpatients by December 2005 Achieved – Maximum wait of three months for an outpatient appointment by December 2005 Achieved – Maximum waiting time of two months from urgent referral to treatment for all cancers by December 2005 Achieved – Delayed transfers of care to reduce to a minimal level by 2006 Achieved – Ensure a maximum waiting time of one month from diagnosis to treatment for all cancers by December 2005 Achieved – Ensure by the end of 2005 all hospital appointments are booked for the convenience of the patient Achieved – Maintain a two week maximum wait from urgent GP referral to first out-patient appointment for all urgent suspected cancer referrals. The Trust did not achieved the full criteria in the following areas: From April 2002 all patients who have operations cancelled for non clinical reasons be offered another binding date within 28 days Maintain a maximum two-week wait standard for Rapid Access chest pain clinics

5 New National Targets 2005/06 Achieved – Substantially reduce mortality rates by 2010 from heart disease, stroke and related diseases Achieved – Increase the participation of problem drug users in drug treatment programmes by 100% by 2008 Achieved – Reduce adult smoking rates Achieved – Reduce the under 18 conception rate by 50% by 2010 Achieved – Substantially reduce mortality rates by 2010 from suicide and undetermined injury by at least 20% Achieved – Tackle the underlying determinants of ill health and health inequalities by halting the year on year rise in obesity among children under 11 by 2010 Achieved – Ensure that by 2008 nobody waits more than 18 weeks from GP referral to hospital treatment Achieved – Improve health outcomes for people with long term conditions by offering a personalised care plan for vulnerable people most at risk and reduce emergency bed delays by 5% by 2008 The Trust did not achieve the full criteria in the following areas: Achieve year on year reductions in MRSA levels Reduce health inequalities by 10% by 2010 as measured by infant mortality and life expectancy at birth Secure sustained national improvements in NHS patients experience by 2008

6 Healthcare Commission – Annual Health Check Utilisation of Resources Fair: This organisation performed adequately with regard to its financial arrangements. Ealing Hospital has at least met the basic requirements in all areas of this assessment and has been given a score of fair for use of resources. The organisation’s consideration of value for money was assessed as good and it met all of its financial targets for the last three years.

8 Governance FT’s organised and governed differently to existing NHS Trusts: Members A council of elected and nominated members – Governors Board of Directors The Governors Council is responsible for representing the interests of the local community in the management and stewardship of the NHS Foundation Trust; Governors are not responsible for the day to day management of the organisation; They appoint the Chair and non-executive Directors
