17. Bottom Line The SecDef and SecNav have said “No” to commercial use of Miramar because it will reduce military readiness and create unacceptable safety risks. MCAS Miramar is used as an Air Station, not an airport. Two decades and five Rounds of BRAC have validated MCAS Miramar as a national security asset. We have been engaged and cooperated with the SDCRAA throughout their 3-year process. Joint use at this magnitude has not been attempted for good reason – It’s unsafe!
