“For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.” John 1:17 Attitudes of Law & Grace

Luke 7 (33-50) “For John the Baptist has come eating no bread and drinking no wine, and you say, ‘He has a demon!’ 34 The Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Behold, a gluttonous man and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ 35 Yet wisdom is vindicated by all her children.” 36 Now one of the Pharisees was requesting Him to dine with him, and He entered the Pharisee’s house and reclined at the table. 37 And there was a woman in the city who was a sinner; and when she learned that He was reclining at the table in the Pharisee’s house, she brought an alabaster vial of perfume, 38 and standing behind Him at His feet, weeping, she began to wet His feet with her tears, and kept wiping them with the hair of her head, and kissing His feet and anointing them with the perfume. 39 Now when the Pharisee who had invited Him saw this, he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet He would know who and what sort of person this woman is who is touching Him, that she is a sinner.”

40 And Jesus answered him, “Simon, I have something to say to you.” And he replied, “Say it, Teacher.” 41 “A moneylender had two debtors: one owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. 42 When they were unable to repay, he graciously forgave them both. So which of them will love him more?” 43 Simon answered and said, “I suppose the one whom he forgave more.” And He said to him, “You have judged correctly.” 44 Turning toward the woman, He said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I entered your house; you gave Me no water for My feet, but she has wet My feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. 45 You gave Me no kiss; but she, since the time I came in, has not ceased to kiss My feet. 46 You did not anoint My head with oil, but she anointed My feet with perfume. 47 For this reason I say to you, her sins, which are many, have been forgiven, for she loved much; but he who is forgiven little, loves little.” 48 Then He said to her, “Your sins have been forgiven.” 49 Those who were reclining at the table with Him began to say to themselves, “Who is this man who even forgives sins?” 50 And He said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”

Law Diagnosis Luke 7:37 And there was a woman in the city who was a sinner. “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Rom 3:23 Grace Exonerates Luke 7:48 Then He said to her, “Your sins have been forgiven.” 1 John 2:2 “And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world.''

Law is Angry about Sin Grace is Happy that Sin is Forgiven

Luke 7:33—34: “For John the Baptist has come eating no bread and drinking no wine, and you say, ‘He has a demon!’ The Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Behold, a gluttonous man and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!' '' The Law Condemns the best of us

Grace saves the Worst of us Luke 7:47 ''For this reason I say to you, her sins, which are many, have been forgiven.''

You are such a Loser !!! The Law Judges Character Luke 7:39 Now when the Pharisee who had invited Him saw this, he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet He would know who and what sort of person this woman is who is touching Him, that she is a sinner.”

I believe in you son! I knew you could get back on that bike and ride it! Graces Changes Character Luke 7:47 For this reason I say to you, her sins, which are many, have been forgiven, for she loved much; but he who is forgiven little, loves little.”

The Law is Suspicious of Grace Luke 7:41 “A moneylender had two debtors: one owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. 42 When they were unable to repay, he graciously forgave them both. So which of them will love him more?” 43 Simon answered and said, “I suppose the one whom he forgave more.”

Grace Embraces Faith “Who is this man who even forgives sins?” And He said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.” Luke 7:50

The Law Creates a Hard Heart “I entered your house; you gave Me no water for My feet, You gave Me no kiss; You did not anoint My head with oil.” Luke 7:46

Grace Softens a Hard Heart Luke 7 44-46 “But she has wet My feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair, but she, since the time I came in, has not ceased to kiss My feet, You did not anoint My head with oil, but she anointed My feet with perfume''. Ezekiel 11(19-20) And I will give them one heart, and put a new spirit within them. And I will take the heart of stone out of their flesh and give them a heart of flesh, 20 that they may walk in My statutes and keep My ordinances and do them. Then they will be My people, and I shall be their God. (Promise of Grace)

Romans 2:4 Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God’s kindness is meant to lead you to repentance? ESV The Attitude of Grace is to Release you from the Attitude of the Law Romans 7:6 But now we have been released from the Law, having died to that by which we were bound, so that we serve in newness of the Spirit and not in oldness of the letter. Mark 1:15 “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”

The Challenge of receiving the fullness of the New Covenant is our attitude concerning Law & Grace. Take the leap of Faith today!
