3 Alabama Alabama , state in the southeastern United States. It is bordered by Tennessee (N), Georgia (E), Florida and the Gulf of Mexico (S), and Mississippi (W).

4 Florida Florida , state in the extreme SE United States. A long, low peninsula between the Atlantic Ocean (E) and the Gulf of Mexico (W), Florida is bordered by Georgia and Alabama (N).

5 Georgia Georgia , state in the SE United States, the last of the Thirteen Colonies to be founded. It is bordered by Florida (S), Alabama (W), Tennessee and North Carolina (N), and South Carolina and the Atlantic Ocean (E).

6 Kentucky Kentucky , one of the so-called border states of the S central United States. It is bordered by West Virginia and Virginia (E); Tennessee (S); the Mississippi R., across which lies Missouri (SW); and Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio, all across the Ohio R. (W, N).

7 Louisiana Louisiana , state in the S central United States. It is bounded by Mississippi, with the Mississippi R. forming about half of the border (E), the Gulf of Mexico (S), Texas (W), and Arkansas (N).

8 Mississippi Mississippi , one of the Deep South states of the United States. It is bordered by Alabama (E), the Gulf of Mexico (S), Arkansas and Louisiana, with most of the border formed by the Mississippi R. (W), and Tennessee (N).

9 North Carolina North Carolina, state in the SE United States. It is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean (E), South Carolina and Georgia (S), Tennessee (W), and Virginia (N).

10 South Carolina South Carolina, state of the SE United States. It is bordered by North Carolina (N), the Atlantic Ocean (SE), and Georgia (SW).

Hurricanes are a natural disaster that threaten some of the SE region. A hurricane is a huge storm with heavy rain and high winds. Near its center, winds blow at 74 miles an hour or more.

28 Day 3 History Ist people in the SE region—Native Americans They settled here because of the forest which were good hunting areas and good for lumber. Also because of the Mississippi River which was good for fishing. Early 1500—Spanish and French Explorers arrived They were looking for gold. The first settlement was built by the Spanish in 1565.
