6. Attendance Board Policy only allows up to 10 days of excused absences
Under the age of 18, truancy charges filed
18 and over, loss of privileges including possible withdrawal from classes and/or school, exclusion from extracurricular activities, loss of parking pass, possible no-participation in commencement exercises in June, etc.
College Visit Day(3) – allowed up to 3 (must provide proof of visit and parent must call attendance line)

7. 18 Year of Age
NO sign-in, sign-outs, calling yourself off just because you are 18 years old.
As long as you are living at home, your parent(s) is responsible for you and we must have permission for sign-in/sign-outs and absences.

8. Arrival/Dismissal from School/Classes
Students arriving or leaving from school grounds must sign in/out in their grade level office.
Even with a note from your parent, students will only be permitted to sign-out after the office has made contact with your parent.
Once a student has signed-out he/she is not permitted to sign back in, unless he/she has a medical or court excuse.
Students are expected to be in their designated classroom at the beginning of each period. Those who are not prompt may be subject to disciplinary action.

10. Early Release
Be sure forms have been completed with your Guidance Counselor
Be prepared to present pass if asked by staff member, monitor or guard upon leaving the building
Can be revoked for academic reasons, discipline reasons, poor attendance, etc.
If you have an early release, you must exit the building with within 5 minutes after the period ends, if found loitering, your early release pass will be revoked

11. Parking
All unpaid school fees MUST be paid before you can purchase a parking pass
All cars must have a parking pass displayed by Monday, September 9th
Right to revoke parking passes for academic and/or disciplinary reasons
BHS Administration has the right to search cars parked in BHS lots

12. Progress Book Progress book: online grade book
Students/parents can access grades throughout the school year.
Login remains the same throughout a student’s career-unless he/she changes it.

13. Mobile Device Policy
Mobile devices are powerful communication tools. Brunswick High School defines mobile devices to include cell phone, iPods, iPads, MP3s, laptops, etc. While it’s understood they are a powerful communication tool, for the same reason, mobile devices can be considered a classroom distraction. In an effort to prepare students for the world in which they live, students will be permitted to carry mobile devices on their person with the following guidelines/expectations:
when using a mobile device to access the Internet, students are required to connect using the district network;
mobile devices are REQUIRED to be on silent at all times;
mobile devices MUST remain in pockets or backpacks until it is time for their use (under teacher discretion in classrooms/Media Center, lunch period, study hall and hallways)
any activity conducted on a mobile device in class, any school-sponsored activities, and/or in any way at school CANNOT be published to the Internet without the permission of administration, teacher and/or students who are involved in the text/image/audio/video file.

14. Mobile Devices Continued
AT NO TIME ARE STUDENTS PERMITTED TO USE THEIR CELLULAR DEVICE TO MAKE TELEPHONE CALLS DURING THE SCHOOL DAY. SHOULD A STUDENT NEED TO MAKE A TELEPHONE CALL, HE/SHE MUST GO TO HIS/HER GRADE LEVEL OFFICE AND USE A SCHOOL TELEPHONE.
BHS Administration reserves the right to confiscate a students cell phone.
Brunswick High School is NOT responsible for lost or stolen mobile devices.

15. Dress Code Highlights
Dresses, skirts or shorts must be knee length(including Award Ceremonies, Class presentations, etc.). Leggings, yoga pants, jeggings and tights are not considered a pant alone-must be accompanied by a knee length shirt or skirt.
Pants are not permitted to be ripped, shredded, torn or damaged. Pants must be worn at the waist.
Students are not permitted to wear any type of hat, headband or bandana. All hats must be kept in lockers from 7:25 – 2:15. Hoods are considered a hat-hoods must remain down during the school day.
Students are not permitted to have unnatural hair color.
5. Coats-Must remain in lockers. 6. Shirts-Students are not permitted to wear halter tops, tank tops, tube tops or any top exposing the midriff or cleavage. 7. Clothing decorated with offensive, obscene language or gestures promoting drugs, alcohol, tobacco, sex, or violence are not permitted. 8. Failure to follow the dress code will result in you being sent to CLC for the day until rectified.

16. Bullying and Fighting
Electronic messaging someone is the same as saying it to their face! Even if it happens out of school it could have implications in the school building which means you can be disciplined.
If you are involved in a fight you will be suspended for at least 3 days of school. School work will not be allowed to be made up!
Charges may be filed with the Brunswick Police Department!

17. Prescription Drugs
All prescription and over the counter medications must be handed in to Nurse McClintock with appropriate paperwork.
You may not carry or store aspirin, prescription medication, cough medicine, 5 hr energy, etc… in your locker.
Violation of this policy will result in a suspension with a recommendation for expulsion.
EpiPens and inhalers must be registered with Nurse McClintock

18. Lockers
Each student will be assigned a locker. Students are responsible for their school materials and personal property, thus lockers should be kept locked at all times.
Sharing of lockers and combinations is not advised.
Lockers are the property of Brunswick City Schools and therefore can be searched at any time.
All of the above pertains to PE lockers as well.

19. Class Exchanges
On weather permitting days, students may walk outside during class changes.
All doors are now alarmed. The office is notified whenever a door is opened.
Reminder: cameras have also been installed.

20. Hall Passes
Your folder has your hall passes for the year. Students will ask their teacher for their signature and take their pass with them to their destination. Once all three pass cards are used (36 passes), you have no passes for the remainder of the year.
If you are caught using someone else’s pass cards you will be disciplined.

21. ID’s You need your ID’s for books, media center, and dances.
Replacement ID’s are $2 and can be purchased in the media center.

22. After School Policy
All students are expected to exit the building by 2:30 p.m. unless being supervised directly by a staff member.
Weight room is not open unless supervised by a BCS staff member.
The media center is open until 3:00 p.m.

23. Athletic Eligibility
Students must have received passing grades in a minimum of 5 one credit classes or the equivalent
9th graders must carry a 1.8 GPA
10th-12 graders must carry a 2.0 GPA
All requirements must be met in the grading period immediately preceding.

24. Random Drug Testing
Participation by students in extracurricular activities offered at BHS is a privilege, not a right.
Students participating in extracurricular activities will be required to participate in a random drug/alcohol/nicotine testing program.
Each student and parent is required to sign a form consenting to the random testing. If the “Drug Testing Policy General Authorization Form” is not signed, you may not participate in any extracurricular activity.

25. Announcements
Announcements will be posted on the smartboard at the beginning of 1st period.

27. Attendance at Extracurricular Events
It is your responsibility to follow the Student Code of Conduct
Inappropriate behavior will result in the removal of that event, possible school consequences and possible exclusion from future events
Athletic Passes –
10 game home pass $30.00
Blue Devil Unlimited Pass allows in all home games for $50.00

28. Final Exams
All seniors are required to take final exams with the exception of those who:
*receive A’s for both the 3rd and 4th Quarter
*take the AP exam (must meet specific requirement and are put forth by AP teacher to be eligible to take AP exam and be exempt from taking final)

29. Academic Excellence for the Class of 2014
Students recognized using cumulative grade point average…
4.00 and higher: Summa Cum Laude
3.5 – 3.799: Magna Cum Laude
3.0 – 3.499: Cum Laude
Top 10 of class will be able to submit speeches to be selected to read at Commencement

30. SKI BOXES Located in every office.
Purpose of the box is to have students or faculty anonymously place written notes in the box when there is a concern about themselves or others.
Will be checked daily by administration or guidance counselor.
NO CONCERN IS TO SMALL!
