Hi, we now have a presentation on Romanticism and we hope you enjoy it. Our first artist will be Marguerite Gerard. He is a French painter, in his biography you will learn more about him and his past life.Marguerite Gerard Thank you, Kiranpreet, Allison & Julia

The definition of Romanticism: Romanticism is mainly or best described Anticlassicism. It is a style of individuality and is “deeply-felt.” It was used from the late 18 th century to the mid 19 th century. Great artists from Romanticism are; Caspar David Friedrich, John Constable, J.M.W. Turner and William Blake.Artists like to combine elements to make a soft romantic painting.

Marguerite Gerard was born in 1761 and passed away in 1837. Gerard lived in France, she was known for being a romanticism French painter. After viewing several of Gerard’s paintings,we noticed that her paintings have dark backgrounds and decorates the characters clothing with brightness and delightful colors. Her full name is really Marguerite Duras Gérard Jarlot.

This painting was made in the 1780’s by Marguerite Gérard. She called it the “Piano Lesson,” as you can see there is a piano lesson going on with a child playing it in the scene. This painting is also by Gérard and it represents the darkness in the background and the lightness in the characters (as I said in his biography). It was made in 1804 and he called it “Motherhood.”

This painting as made in 1804 and Marguerite decided to call it the “Bad News,” once again you can see that there is a woman being treated with medication or something like that. This painting also represents the color theme that I have been mentioning. He called it “Summer.” As you may have noticed, Marguerite Gérard’s paintings look a lot alike. He uses soft and warming colors.

Thank you for watching and stay to watch our next presentation on Francesco Hayez. We hope you enjoy both of them. Thank you, Julia, Kiranpreet & Allison

Francesco Hayez is a Italian romantic painter born in 1791 in Venice and died in 1882, in Milan. He spent most of his life in Milan and trained in Rome with Canova and Ingres. He is remembered as a Romanticism and Neoclassicism painter. Hayez liked to paint subjects such as; religious, historical, and mythological figures. He also painted portraits of many prominent 19th century Italians.

 This is a painting by, once again, Francesco Hayez. It is called “The Kiss and was made in 1859. It is a very famous painting because when I looked it up on google this was the one that came up the most often. This painting is called “Samson Slays The Lion,” by Francesco Hayez. It was printed by Giclee ink on archival paper. It is a very nice and smooth painting.

This painting is by Francesco Hayez and is called “Vase of Flowers.” It is a fine painting by if you look to closely you will see a scary head and a pair of hands grabbing the vase. This is called “Self Portrait” because it is a self portrait of Francesco Hayez. It is very spectacular painting because there is an interesting character in the dark background (as you can see).
