3 NMED 2030 There is an expectation that you come to this class with video production basics –Knowledge of how to turn on a camera –Knowledge of how to import video footage into Adobe Premiere This is a liberal arts university course NOT a technical course –You are here to author and composes media texts –You are here to develop your voice NOT to master software

4 NMED 2030 Primary paradigm –Every film or video is the sum of three considerations: Production –Includes pre-production Distribution –This is the strategy for finding an audience for your work Exhibition

5 NMED 2030 Remember: –Production: You are using consumer tools –Distribution: You are here to develop your portfolio –Exhibition: You are shooting for the small screen at this stage Computer monitors Television monitor playback Handheld devices

6 NMED 2030 Industry film and video production is a highly collaborative process. No one person can be an expert in all areas. The strongest productions depend on the sum of individual talents.

7 NMED 2030 Your Production Responsibilities are: –Teamwork –Prep –Setup –Cleanup

8 NMED 2030 Group Production Step #1: Each student is to write a script based on two sentences. (i.e. Johnny woke up late. He made it to his exam just in time.)

9 NMED 2030 Group Production Step #2: Break into groups of at least three (3) but no more than four (4).

10 NMED 2030 Group Production Step #3: As a group use class time to decide which 2-line story you will tell. Write a story of no more than 200 words for a one to two minute video.

11 NMED 2030 Group Production Step #4: Collaborate to –Write down the script –Compose the storyboard –Organize the production schedule

Make them clear instructions that a stranger could follow You MUST be prepared to shoot video in one-hour as soon as class begins on Thursday –One person must book equipment for your group –Buy a MiniDV cassette
