TaskStream Training Presented by the Committee on Learning Assessment 2015

 Program Assessment, and Why We Do It.  Introduction to TaskStream  Standing Requirements  Mission Statement  Learning Outcomes  Curriculum Map  Assessment Cycle  Assessment Plan  Findings and Closing the Loop  Reporting

 What it is….  The measure of student achievement of the stated program learning outcomes, and  A continuous process based on a curricular approach that begins with a well-articulated and expected ending.  Why we do it….  To see if students are learning  To see if what we’re doing works (whether a particular activity is achieving its goals)  To improve student learning  To get better at what you’re doing  Because someone told me I had to

4.A.3 The institution documents, through an effective, regular, and comprehensive system of assessment of student achievement, that students who complete its educational courses, programs, and degrees, wherever offered and however delivered, achieve identified course, program, and degree learning outcomes. Faculty with teaching responsibilities are responsible for evaluating student achievement of clearly identified learning outcomes.

TaskStream is a web-based application that we use to record our Program Assessment activities TaskStream streamlines:  Content management  Resources, and  Communication Related to learning outcomes assessment and the accreditation process!

TaskStream (AMS) serves as the interactive portal within which learning outcomes, assessment planning, implementation, tracking and results will be centrally located and documented for reporting.

 Developing an assessment plan with student learning outcomes  Aligning outcomes in curriculum maps  Uploading data (e.g., in spreadsheets and tables)  Inputting assessment results (i.e., the statistics)  Documenting results  Creating action plans based on the results  Identifying resource needs to implement actions  Tracking action status  Reporting

 Open a browser, and navigate to http://taskstream.com  The username is your CPTC email: Firstname.lastname@cptc.edu Password: taskstream1  If first time using TaskStream, Sign “End User Agreement” Complete account information Personalize password, if desired Open Student Learning Workspace

 Standing Requirements  Program Mission Statement  Program Learning Outcomes  Curriculum Map  Syllabi Repository  (Annual) Assessment Cycle(s)  Assessment Plan  Findings and Closing the Loop

The mission statement should be a clear and concise statement of the program’s purpose for being.  What are the opportunities or needs your program exist to address?  Who is it serving?  What principles or beliefs guide your work?

“We are a values-driven institution that delivers quality education, training and support focused on student success in an evolving economy”

The Retail Management Program provides competency-based degree and certificate training that leads graduates to employment in the field of sales and marketing.

 There are numerous examples on-line. One of these is http://www.missionstatements.com/  If you would like to revise or rewrite your mission statement, take a look at some others.  This is also something that you could include your advisory committee in.

Learning Outcomes are statements that describe significant and essential learning that learners have achieved, and can reliably demonstrate at the end of a program, course, module or lesson. Learning Outcomes identify what the learner will know and be able to do – the essential and enduring knowledge, abilities (skills) and attitudes (values, dispositions) that constitute the integrated learning needed by a graduate of a course or program. (University of Connecticut).

 Use action verbs (behavioral verbs)  Use clear, jargon-free language  Describe student rather than teacher behavior  Describe learning outcome rather than learning process or activities  Focus on the end behavior rather than on the subject matter coverage  They must be realistic and attainable  Have it validated by colleagues

Outcome mapping is the process of documenting the alignment of program outcomes, when appropriate, to one or more college-wide outcomes.  College-wide Outcome sets  College Mission Themes  President’s Strategic Priorities  College Strategic Goals 2014 – 2019  Student Learning Core abilities

 Map program learning outcomes to the program courses in which they are….  Introduced,  Practiced,  Reinforced, and  Assessed.  TaskStream permits a deeper level of mapping in which course-level outcomes can be mapped to program-level outcomes  Demonstrates alignment!

Create or Select Outcomes and measures in Summer quarter Enter Assessment Findings in Winter or Spring quarter Select Outcomes for the next year in Summer quarter BEGIN Create or Edit Standing Requirements

 Assessment Plan  Selected outcomes  Measures for each selected outcome  Findings and Closing the Loop  Findings per measure  Overall Recommendations  Overall Reflection

 At least 3 outcomes for each assessment cycle, and  At least one must be mapped to a CPTC Student Learning Core Ability

Measures are the assessment strategy to be used to determine the level of student achievement of a stated outcome Measures may occur at more than one point in time, and in more than one course A single outcome may include more than one measure

 Measure Title  Measure Type/Method  Measure Level  Description  Acceptable Target  Ideal Target  Implementation Plan (timeline)  Key/Responsible Personnel

 Findings  The documented results of an implemented measure  Individual findings for each measure  Closing the Loop  The quality improvement plans for an outcome  Integral component of the findings  How you feel about the findings, and  What you are going to do about it.

 Summary of Findings  Recommendations  Reflections/Notes  Acceptable Target Achievement  Not met  Met  Exceeded  Ideal Target Achievement  Moving away  Approaching  Exceeded

 Three parts:  Closing the current assessment cycle,  Implementing Recommendations  Starting next cycle
