3. Historical Background 1959- Herschel Segal opened the first Le Chateau Store. 1960- Herschel Segal was to close to bankruptcy 1960- Herschel Segal came back by selling leather products.

4. 1965 Herschel Segal began importing youth clothing from France, Italy & London. 1972 Le Chateau grew to 10 store locations. In the mid 1970’s Le Chateau grew to over 50 store locations. In 1977 Le Chateau went bankrupt. In 1983 Le chateau went public and the public raised 7.3 million dollars for the company.

5. New Direction in the 2000’s Le Chateau updated the layout and designs of their stores. In 2003 Le Chateau came out with a clothing line from the movie “down with love” Le Chateau also came out with a series from Canadian Idol Le Chateau made changes in management, the inventory process and quality control.

6. For le Chateaus final quarter in 2002 they doubled their profits Stock price rose from $2.10 to $11 from 2000-2003 Sales rose at 4.2% during 2003 Earnings rose to 40% Herschel Segal turned 70 years old in 2001.
