The Spirit Of Truth And The Spirit Of Error 1 John 4:6

6 We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error. 1 John 4:6, KJV

Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. 2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: 3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. 1 John 4:1-3, KJV Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. 1 John 4:1-3, KJV

The Jehovah’s Witnesses - - History The founder of the group, Charles Russell, was born in 1852 in Allegheny, PA. By age 17, he became convinced that the doctrine of a real, literal hell was a myth or fable. The next year, he wandered into a church during a sermon on the return of Christ. He became preoccupied with the time of Christ’s return, and wrote, “The Manner and Object of Christ’s Return.”

The Jehovah’s Witnesses - - History Russell stated that Christ would return to earth in 1874. He later changed the date to 1914, and stated that Christ’s return would be a spiritual, invisible return. In 1879 he began to publish “Zion’s Watchtower & Herald of Christ’s Return.”

The Jehovah’s Witnesses - - History In 1912, Baptist pastor J.J. Ross wrote an article critical of Russell and his teaching. Russell sued Ross for slander. During the trial, Russell perjured himself twice – by stating that he knew Greek, which he did not; and by stating that he had been ordained, which he had not. In 1913, Russell was divorced by his wife. In her suit, she specified, “Conceit, egotism, domination, and improper conduct toward other women” as her grounds for divorce.

The Jehovah’s Witnesses - - History In 1916, Russell died and Joseph Rutherford was elected leader of the movement. Under his leadership, a series of famous court battles were fought over the Witnesses’ refusal of military service. In 1942, Rutherford died, and Nathan Homer took over leadership of the Witnesses. The major accomplishment during Rutherford’s tenure was the publication of “The New World Translation” Of the Bible.

The Jehovah’s Witnesses -- Overview There are two groups within the Jehovah’s Witnesses – the 144,000 and the Jonodabs or “Other Sheep.” For the 144,000 salvation is guaranteed. For the others, they must work very hard witnessing for Jehovah. This is why the Witnesses are so aggressive in the spread of their religion. There is no hell; they are working to avoid annihilation, or cessation of existence.

The Jehovah’s Witnesses -- Overview The 144,000 will spend eternity in heaven. The best the Jonadabs can hope for his eternity on a recreated earth. The next major event on Jehovah’s timetable is Armageddon – a battle pitting the Witnesses against everyone else in the world, including Christians, who they say are of the devil. Following the Battle of Armageddon comes the 1,000 Millennial Kingdom on earth.

The Jehovah’s Witnesses -- Overview During this 1,000 years, Jehovah will recreate all those who never had a chance to hear the truth about him. Of course, this is basically everyone who was born before Russell started the movement in the 19 th century. Those who do not follow Jehovah after having been given this second chance are annihilated.

The Jehovah’s Witnesses -- Overview The Witnesses to not believe in the Trinity. The only God is Jehovah, and the Holy Spirit is His power, not a distinct person. As for Christ, He was created by Jehovah as the angel, Michael. “Michael” was stripped of his angelic status and sent to earth as a mere mortal. Since a mere man died on the cross, the was no atonement in His death, and there was no bodily resurrection.
