4 Structure and mission of police forces each land has a police force of its own on the federal level we have two forces, the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) and the Federal Border Police (BGS) the structures of the 16 Land police forces differ police forces includes the uniformed police, judicial police, police, river police, highway police and the alert police the mission of the police consists protecting the individual rights from any danger protecting the public security safeguarding the constitutional order crime prevention and crime repression Policing in Germany

7 Personnel of Police forces administration staff and police officers staff is responsible for internal matters such as real estate management personnel budget management management of resources and equipment totally there are round about 270.000 employees within the germane public service three career groups “ordinary” police agents (constable to sergeant) executive (lieutenant to first lieutenant) administrative (superintendent to commander in chief) Policing in Germany

8 Training basic-training 2 1/2 years University of applied sciences (for selected candidates or candidates who enter police directly) with 3 years of study courses, ending with a state examination and the candidates are promoted to the rank of “lieutenant” (Polizeikommissar) in the following years there are a lot of further training programs, e.g. communication training anti stress training shooting/ non-shooting-training special training depended on the job qualified officers can at a later state and special selection (e.g. assessment centre) apply for access to the administrative class of service Policing in Germany
