1 2011 EMT-Paramedic Initial Course Informational Meeting

2 1099 Hour Paramedic Course Clinical and Field Internship 500 hours – 200 Clinical hours – 300 Field Internship hours Start Date – January 11, 2011 and January 12, 2011 Flip-Flop Schedule Room: 2102 Time: 9:00am to 6:00pm End Date – December 15, 2011

3 PARAMEDIC PRE-REQUISITES MUST PRE-REGISTER BY JANUARY 7, 2011 @ 5:00PM Must show proof of a High School Diploma or GED. The student must provide a valid EMT-Basic Credential, or a certificate (Approved Community College) of successful completion of the EMT-Basic Program including Field and Clinical, based on the 2001 Objectives from the Release of the United States Department of Transportation (US DOT), and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) EMT-Basic Course: National Standard Curriculum. Must pass an approved entrance exam involving mathematics, reading, and writing skills. Failure to pass an approved entrance exam before the last day of didactic section will result in the student being dropped from the class. Official College transcripts will be accepted, as long as the class/ classes in question were within the last 5 Years.

4 PARAMEDIC CO-REQUISITES Successful completion of Anatomy and Physiology for EMS Providers (EMS#3000), or an equivalent Anatomy and Physiology Course (College level A&P will be accepted from an Official College Transcript, only within the last 5 years). This must be done prior to the last day of classroom lecture (December 7, 2011). Successfully pass the NCC EMT-Basic Exam and EMT-Basic Skills Assessment. ( March 1, 2011) Successfully pass the Cardiology Final Exam. ( June 7, 2011) Must show proof of negative PPD (TB) skin test, prior to any clinical. Must show proof that Hepatitis B Vaccinations have been started, prior to any clinical. Must show proof of MMR, and vericella/chicken pox titer. Complete a State of North Carolina and Federal Background Check, negative drug test. (ONLY if the clinical site requires it, the student will turn it into the appropriate person of that site.)

6 EMT-Basic Exam and Skills Assessment This will be a 50 question multiple choice exam. The content will come from the Brady EMT book and AAOS (Jones and Bartlett) EMT book. The skills assessment will be an evaluation of your EMT-Basic skills. The evaluators will be utilizing the NREMT Skill Sheets. In order to continue in the EMT-Paramedic Course, you will have to PASS BOTH.
