Did you know… Florida’s State Flower is the orange blossom. The State Bird is the Mockingbird “The Sunshine State” is the state nickname The state song is “Swanee River” written by Stephen Foster in 1851.
Geography and Climate of Florida Florida is a peninsula located in the southeastern United States. It is bordered by the Atlanta ocean on the East and the Gulf of Mexico on the West Parts of Florida are swampy lowlands (The Everglades) while the rest of Flower is primarily flat. Northern and central Florida has a humid subtropical climate while southern Florida has a tropical climate. This makes Florida a popular destination in the winter months. History of Florida Ponce de Leon found and claimed Florida for Spain in 1513 while looking for the “Foundation of Youth.” Spain sold it to the United States in 1819. Became a state March 3, 1845. Early history included many Indian wars with the Seminole Indians who were native to Florida. Florida fought with the Confederacy in the Civil War.
