Introduction Pack your bags and get ready for the trip of a lifetime! You and your classmates are going to outer space! There’s only one problem….you don’t know how to get there! Before you leave you must create a map so you and your classmates can make it there and back safely! Oh and one more thing, all planets are not like Earth so make sure you include a few facts about each planet so you know you are in the right place! 3, 2, 1 Blastoff!

You must create a map for you and your classmates to navigate through space! Your map must include all 8 planets and the Sun. To make sure you are on the right planet make sure to include 2 facts about each planet on your map! Not all planets are the same size or color, make certain you include their differences in your map! Task

First you need to discover what the planets of the solar system are! You must find the 8 planets of the Solar System before you get any further! Using the link below find and record the 8 planets of our Solar System. http://starchild.gsfc.nasa.gov/docs/StarChild/solar_syste m_level1/planets.html http://starchild.gsfc.nasa.gov/docs/StarChild/solar_syste m_level1/planets.html Process

Now that you know what each planet is called you must find out the order of the planets so you can get home safely! Using the links below find and record the order of the 8 planets of our Solar System. http://solarviews.com/eng/solarsys.htm http://www.manatee.k12.fl.us/sites/elementary/samoset/ psgk3ex.htm http://www.manatee.k12.fl.us/sites/elementary/samoset/ psgk3ex.htm Process

Now that you have all of your information it’s time to make your map! Print and cut out the planets provided for you below. Then using the information you uncovered earlier place them on a large piece of construction paper(will be provided) in the correct order. Don’t forget to include your facts on your map of the Solar System! http://cse.ssl.berkeley.edu/AtHomeAstronomy/act09_imageca rds.html http://cse.ssl.berkeley.edu/AtHomeAstronomy/act09_imageca rds.html http://cse.ssl.berkeley.edu/AtHomeAstronomy/saturn_card.ht m http://cse.ssl.berkeley.edu/AtHomeAstronomy/saturn_card.ht m http://cse.ssl.berkeley.edu/AtHomeAstronomy/jupiter_card.ht m http://cse.ssl.berkeley.edu/AtHomeAstronomy/jupiter_card.ht m Process
