3. I. There will be a Separation Death - means separation God created man with a soul – Gen.2:7 Body + Soul = Life Sin ~ expelled from Garden of Eden What is death?

4. “For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.” Jas. 2:26 “That separation of the soul from the body by which the life on earth is ended.” [Thayers] Gen. 35:18 “as her soul was departing.” Luke 23:46 “gave up the ghost”

5. “For dust you are, And to dust you shall return.” Gen. 3:19 NKJV “Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.” Eccl. 12:7 In that first minute after death the soul and body become separated from each other ! What happens to the soul / spirit ?

6. II.There will be an escort for the Spirit Some have the idea that the soul wanders around -- “ghosts” “And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;” Luke 16:22

7. III. There Will be an Assignment Our soul will be in Hades “Today shalt thou be with me in paradise.” Luke 23:43 Jesus died – buried – resurrected Where was his soul ???

8. “For You will not leave my soul in Hades, Nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption.” Acts 2:27 NKJV Hades = the realm of the dead, place where our spirits go to await the resurrection Two Places in Hadean world

10. IV. There will be an Awareness We will know what is happening Consciousness after death – Luke 16 Able to:  Recognize people  Remember our former life  Regret  Rejoice

12. Death is a sobering fact “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:” Heb. 9:27 “…there is but a step between me and death”. 1 Sam. 20:3b “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.” Ps.116:15
