5 Senior Year Senior Year Complete applications EARLY (Sept.-Oct.) ◦ Most applications are online ◦ CAREFULLY follow instructions for essays, recommendations, or other items required by each college. ◦ Provide teachers and/or counselors with a “Senior Questionnaire” if you are asking for a letter of recommendation (forms available in office). ◦ Arrange for transcripts to be sent through Docufide ◦ Arrange for ACT/SAT to be sent. Consider On-site Admissions ◦ Check with the counseling office or the Athens website for a current list of colleges offering On-site Admissions. ◦ Complete paper applications and request transcripts ◦ Make your appointments through our counseling secretary

7 Additional Information Oakland Community College can provide recommendations for specific courses that will transfer to specific state colleges at a tremendous savings. macrao.org If your student plans to play sports in college he/she needs to register with the NCAA Eligibility Center, formerly known as NCAA Clearing House. www.ncaa.org ACT/SAT prep materials and workshops are available for students. They can be found online, in libraries, and in bookstores. Check the guidance office for additional information. www/actstudent.org sat.collegeboard.com/practice Junior year is the most important academic year for college admissions. Please emphasize this with your student and suggest our after-school tutoring if needed. Financial Aid night for class of 2012 seniors will be in January, 2012, and will provide information about scholarships and the FAFSA form. www.fafsa.ed.gov Our online scholarship book is available on the Athens website. Go to “Counseling” and on the left, click on “Complete Scholarship List”. Financial aid information from colleges will be mailed to your student once they have been accepted.
