FUTURE ENERGY WIND POWER

INTRODUCTION Wind power is simply the conversion of winds kinetic energy into electricity. Generally, wind power exists in areas that have a minimum wind speed of about 5m/s. A device known as the wind turbine is used to generate power from wind

Wind Turbine Made up of 3 components which are :- the tower, the nacelle and the rotor blades A typical wind turbine has a tower of about 80 feet The nacelle helps to house the generator and other electricity generating parts. The rotor blades rotate to give mechanical energy to the generator

Innovation There will be maximum utilization of land with the worlds growing population, therefore most houses if not all houses that will be built in future will be very tall houses.

Since wind turbines are usually built with very tall towers, they can instead be placed on roof tops of these tall houses.

The blades will be made from red woo( lightest wood) instead of the usual aluminium or firbre glass to reduce the weight of the turbine A small tower about 2 feet tall will be built with Bulsa wood ( strongest wood) will also b created ontop A small generator ( brushed DC motor) also used.

Advantages of Wind Power Wind energy is not hazardous to the environment as no fossil fuels are being burnt in the process. There will be great utilization of space, as the wind turbines will be constructed on top of rooftops. Wind is free. The cost of production is relatively cheap.

Disadvantages of Wind Power Wind is an unreliable source of energy as the wind energy varies; sometimes it might be high and other times it might be very low. Noise pollution produced from the generators. Very extreme weather conditions might destroy the wind turbines.
