3. Choice #2 Individual  Students engage in study in a field of interest based on exploration in senior seminar.  Students enter into field experience related to the problem/issue of interest the last three weeks of school. Their grades are frozen during this time.  The expert/professional involved in the field experience will serve as the students’ mentor.  Examples: A. Field experience in the form of job shadowing in a career of interest. B. Field experience doing volunteer/service work in an area of focus. C. Learning a skill under the guidance of a master.  Spends one week on campus at the end of the year attending seminars and work sessions to complete final portfolio.

4. Assessment Authentic Intellectual work is the construction of knowledge through disciplined inquiry that leads to the production of discourse products or performances that have value beyond school. In order to demonstrate construction of knowledge and disciplined inquiry students will be able to communicate outside of the traditional classroom in the following ways: Each student, regardless of the choice made for the project, will produce: Proposal Verbal Defense of work in progress at 6 week grading periods Process journal Written narrative by mentor Graduation portfolio

5. Exhibition All students will be a part of an exhibition that shares the work they have completed. This will not be a formal assessment but rather a celebration of completion. All students presenting will have completed the culminating project and as a result are ready to share with the public. All projects will be a part of a final Exhibition. This will be similar to the Extravaganza

6. Project Coaches: The coaches will oversee senior seminar and guide students through the culminating project process. They will keep record of student contacts and progress. Coaches do not evaluate student work. They serve as a guide for students in the process. Coaches: Bowling, Conklin, Lavold, Gaspaire, Holm. ****Students will be meeting bi-weekly (Monday and Wednesday) during Senior Seminar with one or all of the coaches. Project Mentors: The mentors work individually and directly with the students. The mentors purpose is to hold students to the parameters, goals and responsibilities of the project. The mentor will be directly connected to the work involved in the students project.  The mentor of the research team will be Dr. Hillis and Dr. Hamel  The mentor for the individual projects will be directly overseeing the work the student is doing. For example, it will be the person whom the student is job shadowing.  The mentor for the COE students will be the career counselor, a tutor or the student’s counselor. Mentors will play key roles in evaluating the work the students complete. They will give feedback, suggestions and final sign off on students’ work. Mentors will write a final narrative for the student that will be a part of the final portfolio.

7. Individual:  Final Draft of proposal This will be a proposal that explains all portions of the field experience. It will include a summary of the issue/problem, details about the field experience, details about the mentor, desired outcome connected to field experience.  Process journal  Written reflection of experience  JOURNAL every day of your mentorship  Narrative evaluation from mentor  Annotated bibliography (7-10 sources) Proposals and Final Portfolios All proposals for all projects will go through a process of three drafts. They will be evaluated and approved within the senior seminar block. They will be evaluated and approved by peers, underclassmen and mentors.

8. Senior Seminar will be a time a place set aside for seniors to work on and complete the culminating project. It will be supervised by the project coaches and will be mandatory for all seniors to attend. · This will take place twice a week, Monday and Wednesday from 2:30-3:30. · There will be mandatory Saturday school seminars · The final week of school for seniors will consist entirely of seminar activities that will help them complete their projects. The following will be activities that will take place during seminar: · Introduction to the project · All three drafts of the proposal · Investigating fields of interest · Making contact with outside agencies/organizations · Learning “soft skills” for interacting in the field experience · Verbal defense of work at six week grading periods · Meetings with mentors · Completing portfolio · Preparing for exhibition
