7. EVERGREEN STATE COLLEGE Public college (4000 students) - the largest of the CIEL schools. Programs in Olympia, Tacoma and six reservation sites Areas of Distinction include: Narrative evaluations Year-long interdisciplinary learning communities Strong curriculum in a variety of areas, including: Environmental studies (especially alternative agriculture, forestry, natural history and marine studies) Physical science Political economy Native studies Humanities including a half dozen year-long language/culture/history programs

8. FAIRHAVEN COLLEGE at WWU Interdisciplinary college (500 students) - embedded in a large public university. 10. Johnson C. Smith University Private historically black college (1500 students) now serving a diverse group of students Newest member of CIEL. 11. NEW COLLEGE OF FLORIDA A Florida Honors College in the public university system with 700 students and a student-faculty ratio of 11:1. Areas of Distinction include: Student designed contracts describing the student’s academic activities and goals for the semester Narrative evaluations Strong science and marine science programs Strong emphasis on undergraduate research-all students complete a senior thesis in their final year

12. PITZER COLLEGE Private college in the Claremont College group (950 students). Students and faculty share resources and cross- register with the other Claremont campuses. Areas of Distinction include Emphasis on social justice & community involvement. interdisciplinary, research based and team taught courses in psychology, media studies, neuroscience, and environmental studies. Foreign study programs in: Botswana China Ecuador - University-Based Ecuador - Intensive Language Italy Nepal Darjeeling, India

STUDENT EXCHANGES Opportunity to study at any one of the participating colleges or universities for a term while paying home campus tuition Develop a rich comparative perspective Take advantage of curricular opportunities and faculty expertise not present on the home campus, Live in a different geographical region Experience vastly different campus cultures and different political and socio-economic milieus Study abroad programs are included in the agreement.

14. FOREIGN STUDY Programs available around the world through the various member institutions, from Botswana to Costa Rica, from Italy to India. (Some of these programs require additional fees.)

15. STUDENT SYMPOSIUM Students from all campuses share their research and inquiry projects. 1 ST Annual Symposium held at New College in Sarasota, FL. This year’s Symposium will be held at Pitzer College in Claremont, CA.

16. ON-LINE JOURNAL Produced annually from submissions by each of the member institutions – Fiction, Non-Fiction, Poetry, and Art & Photography.

17. SOME POTENTIAL FACULTY OPPORTUNITIES THAT MIGHT BENEFIT STUDENTS Collaboration of faculty from one or more members of faculty from any of the CIEL schools, for course development and/or course delivery. Co-teaching students using distance learning, or by traveling to another campus, or meeting in a field location. Faculty from other CIEL sites as visiting faculty. Collaborating on foreign study at varied international locations), depending on availability. Research opportunities with any of the CIEL faculty who have common interests and goals.
