CTAP 295- Final Presentation Raelene Juarez Chowchilla Union High School

Introduction – Who am I? Physical Education Teacher Technology Coordinator Wife and Mother of 1 ½ Contact Info: Chowchilla High School 805 Humboldt Avenue Chowchilla, CA 93610 My website: http://chowchillahigh.k12.ca.us/school s/cuhs/teacher_sites/juarezra/public_ html/teacher/ http://chowchillahigh.k12.ca.us/school s/cuhs/teacher_sites/juarezra/public_ html/teacher/

Expectations… Initially, I expected that I would be designing and developing a website. The content of the site; however, was a mystery. Once I started the course I found that it was hard to follow the CTAP requirements. Now that I am completing the course, I want to be able to design my “own” web site for the classes I teach.

Actual Learning… I learned how to search the Internet more effectively. I learned how to teach others about web design and development. I learned more about troubleshooting and fixing problems when creating a web site.

Successes & Shortcomings… The lesson was a huge success! The students loved going to the library to learn about dance. It was a refreshing experience away from the atmosphere of a “stuffy” gym. The only shortcomings of the lesson were Internet down time and students had to be in twos or threes to use a computer.

Successes “In a Nutshell”… Successful learning experience Refreshing for both the teacher and students Using technology effectively

Shortcomings “In a Nutshell”… Not enough computers for all students Internet down time Time constraints

Student Data… This graph reveals the results of the pre-test (yellow), post-test (blue), and culminating activity (pink) for males only. Most students did improve their knowledge.

Revision Summary.. The student data was helpful to determine whether the students learned the material. The following revisions were helpful when it came time to implement the lesson: rubric development, refining the objectives, and aligning the activities to the objectives.

Suggested Revisions… RevisionsSuggestions ObjectivesRefinement RubricAlign with the lesson objectives ActivitiesModify to meet refined objectives

Conclusion… The idea of technology in the curriculum is a wonderful idea; however, there is a time and place for it to be implemented. Teachers do not have the time or the technology resources to actually integrate technology into the curriculum, especially when teachers are expected to teach to the standards and the upcoming Exit Exam. I maintain a hopeful outlook for the successful integration of technology, but without the support or resources, it’s a losing battle.
