Luke 6:1-11.

Deuteronomy 23:25 Luke 1:4 Breaking the Sabbath Walking Harvesting “Why do you do what is not lawful on the Sabbath?” claim of authority (Luke 6:1-2)

Luke 6:3: “Haven’t you even read…?” 1 Samuel 21:1-6 Leviticus 24 Confrontation of Grace (Luke 6:3-4)

Claim of authority (Luke 6:5) Verse 5 Jesus is the Lord of the Sabbath. More than over the Law Over the Sabbath itself = Equal to God.

Confrontation of Grace (Luke 6:6-10) Luke 5:24-ff The evidence of authority is embedded in the actions of Jesus. “watching Him closely to see if he healed on the Sabbath.” watch... with sinister intent.

The Lord of the Sabbath 1.He Knows their thoughts. 2.He Calls attention to the man's need. 3.He Speaks to the antagonists.

The Pharisees perceived the Law of God concerning the Sabbath as what you must not do. But for Jesus the Sabbath is about what you may do. You may keep the Sabbath holy - a gift to be welcomed rather than a curse to be endured.

To fail to do good when you have the chance is the same as doing evil. To fail to save a life when you can is the same as destroying life.

This is the difference in the law for the sinner and the saved. For the sinner the law is summarized in "Don't sin!" But for the saved the law is summarized in "Love God!" It convicts and condemns the condemned and demonstrates the freedom of the redeemed.

Conviction Luke 6:11 “they who should have been astonished at the miracle, increased in malice...” it is lawful in their eyes to plan the destruction of a life on the Sabbath. Matthew 12:14 / Mark 3:6 “destroy”

Application L ike the Pharisees Or like the man with the withered hand You can either leave here at war with Jesus or you can leave here with Jesus.
