3 Frequency and Period  Working with your elbow partner do the following: 1. Create a T chart for the characteristics of frequency and period.

4 Frequency example Michael Phelps swims 20 laps in 3 minutes (180 seconds). What is the frequency of Michael Phelps swimming?

5 Period example Bobby and Bertha are playing a game of ping pong. The ball goes back and forth 40 times. The period of the game is ____________ seconds

6 Practice  Complete first section of your notes.

7 Where we’ve been - speed  Refer to section two on your notes

9 What affects the speed of a wave?  Calculate the wave speed in the ‘wave speed practice section of your handout.

10 Summary  Are there any trends? Support your answer.  What conclusion can you make regarding the relationship between velocity and the medium? Support your answer.  What is the relationship between velocity and wavelength?  What is the relationship between velocity and frequency?  What is the relationship between wavelength and frequency?

11 Wave Equation Relationships  Wavelength and frequency are inversely proportional.  Velocity remains unchanged  Velocity (speed) of the wave is only affected by the medium in which it is traveling in.

12 Practice

13 Cool down  Write everything you know about wave properties and wave speed (3 minutes).  Write one item that is muddy about wave properties and or wave speed.
