OPENING SERVICE Presbyterians for Earth Care Conference 2013

Gathering song Surely the presence of the Lord is in this place. I can feel God's mighty power and God's grace. I can hear the brush of angel's wings, I see glory on each face. Surely the presence of the Lord is in this place. Words and tune by Janice Cowan, CCLI license No. 2486767

Prayer of Intercession God of creation, we come in faithfulness, responding to your call. To love our neighbor and choose life, to share your good news with all creation. To follow your call, in our need of knowledge and inspiration, we traveled far Redeem our footprints, teach us now ways to do your will

May the wisdom of the earth, the words that will be spoken and the longing of our souls, speak truth to our hearts, tenderly, so we may hear you. Help us find new paths to feel the unbroken wholeness for which we yearn To see the world as you see it, to keep your creation sacred.

When the earth groans and our fear rises, help us see your Spirit at work So we may stand in solidarity with all you love. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

A Calling

Reflection

Psalm 104:1-6 Praise the Lord, my soul. Lord my God, you are very great; you are clothed with splendor and majesty. The Lord wraps himself in light as with a garment; he stretches out the heavens like a tent and lays the beams of his upper chambers on their waters. He makes the clouds his chariot and rides on the wings of the wind. He makes winds his messengers, flames of fire his servants. He set the earth on its foundations; it can never be moved.

Spirit of the Living God O Spirit of the living God, thou Light and Fire Divine Descend upon Thy Church once more and make it truly Thine Fill it with love and joy and power, with righteousness and peace Till Christ shall dwell in human hearts, and sin and sorrow cease. Words: Henry H. Tweedy, 1933. Music: Forest Green, arranged by Ralph Vaughan Williams, 1906, CCLI license No. 2486767

Blow, wind of God, with wisdom blow until our minds are free from mists of error, clouds of doubt, which blind our eyes to Thee Burn, winged fire, inspire our lips with flaming love and zeal To preach to all Thy great good news, God’s glorious commonweal.

So shall we know the power of Christ, who came this world to save So shall we rise with Him to life which soars beyond the grave And earth shall win true holiness, which makes Thy children whole Till, perfected by Thee, we reach creation’s glorious goal.

Blessing

Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing Come, thou Fount of every blessing, tune my heart to sing thy grace; streams of mercy, never ceasing, call for songs of loudest praise. Teach me some melodious sonnet, sung by flaming tongues above. Praise the mount! I'm fixed upon it, mount of thy redeeming love. Words: Robert Robinson, tune: Nettleton, 1990 Westminster/John Knox Press, CCLI license No. 248676

Here I raise my Ebenezer; hither by thy help I'm come; and I hope, by thy good pleasure, safely to arrive at home. Jesus sought me when a stranger, wandering from the fold of God; He, to rescue me from danger, interposed his precious blood.

O to grace how great a debtor daily I'm constrained to be! Let thy goodness, like a fetter, bind my wandering heart to thee. Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it, prone to leave the God I love; here's my heart, O take and seal it, seal it for thy courts above. Here’s my heart, O take and seal it, Seal it for thy courts above.
