Smart Growth : Preserves open space, farmland and environmental features Reduces carbon footprint Mixed-use development, mass transit accessibility, walkable neighborhoods Well planned, well managed growth New and rehabed homes, new jobs Sustainable socio-economic development Enhances quality of life

3 Office of Smart Growth p. 3 BROWNFIELDS What Are They? Any former or current commercial or industrial site, currently vacant or underutilized and on which there has been, or there is suspected to have been, a discharge of a contaminant.

7 Office of Smart Growth p. 7 BROWNFIELDS REDEVELOPMENT TASK FORCE Mission Coordinate State Policy Inventory brownfields projects Makes recommendations to the Governor and Legislature Promotes brownfields redevelopment Expedites property returns to productive use

8 Office of Smart Growth p. 8 BRIT Mission Streamline and coordinate the Brownfields redevelopment process for interested parties Guided by New Jersey’s Smart Growth policies and practices. Redevelopment projects are individually reviewed by BRIT in an informal, problem-solving atmosphere. Incentives are bundled and tailored to each unique project. Brownfields programs and practices are improved through this partnering process. This can reduce redevelopment time by years.
