Laudato Si’ Care of our Common Home A reflection on the Pope’s encyclical Photo: Adrian Heke

Pope Francis has just written a letter about the environment. He says...

The natural world is beautiful and wonderful.

When we look at the world around us we can see how much God loves us.

When we can see God reflected in all that exists we want to praise and thank God.

Saint Francis of Assisi reminds us that our earth is like a sister with whom we share our life…

…and a beautiful mother who opens her arms to hug us.

This sister now cries out to us because of the harm we are doing to the world.

The earth, our home, is beginning to look more and more like a rubbish tip. Fiji SEEP – Social Empowerment and Education Programme https://ramumine.wordpress.com

Climate change is a problem facing many people around the world.

In some places where people depend on fishing for a living, there are less fish.

Water pollution particularly affects the poor who cannot buy bottled water...

Rising sea levels are harming people who live on low lying Pacific islands.

Some people refuse to admit they are polluting the world. Fiji – SEEP – Social Empowerment and Education Programme

The problems affecting the earth are also affecting people.

It’s important that we stand alongside the poor who need help to fight climate change.

We can all do things to help the planet.

We are all affected by climate change and we need to support each other. No Drill Kaikōura

We have a shared responsibility for the world.

Human beings know how to choose what is good.

Although there are some problems, may we always be hopeful.

All powerful God, you are present in the whole universe and in the smallest of your creatures. You embrace with your tenderness all that exists.

Pour upon us the power of your love, that we may protect life and beauty. Fill us with your peace, that we may live as brothers and sisters, harming no one.

Teach us to discover the worth of each thing, to be filled with respect for every creature, to recognise that we are all part of one human family.

We thank you for being with us each day. Encourage us, we pray, in our struggle for justice, love and peace.
