Overview Advantages/Disadvantages Tips on using IPODS Integrating IPODS into the lesson Grant Information

Questions to think about What are the advantages to using an IPOD in class? What are the disadvantages to using an IPOD in class?

Drawbacks Can be very pricey Require a lot of prep work (time consuming) The screen may be too small for some students or students with disabilities. As of right now, there is no way to hook an IPOD up to a projector to be able to show the screen of your IPOD. If you get an A/V cable only videos and MP3s will show and play on the projector.

Benefits Allows for differentiated instruction Great for visual and kinesthetic learners Can be a great tool for early finishers Can be used as a reward system Excellent for reviewing old information and introducing new information Teaching and learning possibilities are endless on the IPOD touch.

Tips on using IPODS Finding Applications Many great applications are free; most are at the elementary level. Be careful on free applications many have adult ads. Some application developers will let you try a smaller version “lite” of their app free. Most Iphone applications work on an IPOD touch. Many textbooks have apps geared to their content Ex Pearson Hall and McGraw Hill

A Few More Tips To save battery life, make sure you have the students close out any applications they were working out before returning the IPOD. Take the rating of an application with a grain of salt because sometimes people can be over or under critical. I like to read the comments if any are left. Before buying an app make sure it is compatible with the IPOD you are using.
