5 Planning meals What is healthy eating? Portion sizes – Child fist What to do to change the plans? Introduce new food in a positive way Feed children when they are hungry

6 Eating habits – the meal Eating habits – It´s important to plan meals when children are hungry. – Eat with the toddler you are caring for. – How to encourage toddlers to eat healthy food? – TV, ipods while eating is never recommended – Fussy eaters – reinforce positive behavior

7 What have you learned about healthy eating? The eat well plate – plan a meal The eat well plate – test what you have learned How do you teach a child to eat broccoli? How do change bad eating habits?

8 Sleep Behaviors and Routines

9 Overview Children can be anxious about sleep – separation fears. Favorite toy, nightlight or other comforters can help. Try to make children sleep independently, comfort them, ensure they feel safe. Long haul travel, holidays can change the routine, time will gradually change that.

10 Less then 1 year old 4-6 months – introduce simple bed routine (can be: eat, bath, sleep), not too long about 15 minutes. – Move away from rocking, feeding to sleep, – try to teach self soothing. – Try to do the same thing in the same order every night. – Screen time before sleep I NOT advised.

11 Less then 1 year old Over 6 months – If pattern changes and baby starts waking up at night. – possibly use controlled crying if baby is healthy and well. – Make sure baby Is well fed. – Put back to bed without to much attention, no eye contact, repeat as needed.repeat as needed

12 Potty Training Respect the schedule your employer introduces – don´t forget to reinforce positive behavior, keep things fun and without tears.

13 Overview Age - 18-24 months starts, depends on when each child is ready: – Can stay dry for 2 hours and show interest in toilet – Regular or predictable bowel movements – Know when they need to go “I´m peeing”. – Understand simple instructions – Can sit – Enjoy phrase Main thing is the child is comfortable and secured (encourage potty training video )encourage potty training video

14 Pooh, wee report! Pooh report: – Keep pooh report, remember what the pooh is like and when the child made a pooh. It´s very important for parents to know. – If pooh is hard. Give plenty of high fiber foods (vegetables and fruits and lots of water). – They are supposed to pooh every day. Let employer know if not.
