The Greenhouse Effect 3/3/15 15-2b pgs. 398-401 IN: What do you think is the Greenhouse Effect? Put your Lesson 12 on the books
The Greenhouse Effect – the natural heating process of a planet, such as the Earth, by which gases in the atmosphere trap thermal energy.
Particles that trap thermal energy are called “greenhouse gases”. Scientists have hypothesized that an increase of these gases, may be causing an increase in the greenhouse effect.
Global Warming – a rise in average global temperatures.
Radiation balance is the balance between incoming and outgoing energy. – The amount coming in and going out must be equal for earth to remain livable.
The Radiation Balance
OUT: Draw a diagram of The Greenhouse Effect.
MODULE #1: Climate Change & Global Warming
Heating of the Atmosphere
The “Greenhouse Effect”
Chapter 6. 4: Meeting Ecological Challenges Case Study #3 (Pgs
Our Atmosphere The Greenhouse Effect. The Sun The Sun provides the Earth with continuous heat and light.
Rise in temperature of the atmosphere and oceans Earth's average surface temperature increased by about 0.8 °C Two thirds of the increase occurring over.
Incoming Solar Energy What affects the amount of incoming solar energy?
Chapter 2 Section 1 The sun provides nearly all of the energy which powers the atmosphere. That energy comes to us in the form of electromagnetic.
Global warming. Content 1. What is the global warming? 2. What causes the global warming? 3. What it means to us? 4. Solutions 5. References list.
Greenhouse Gas Effect And Global Warming. What is a greenhouse? A greenhouse is made of glass Has a glass roof and walls It traps the suns energy.
Heating the Atmosphere Radiation Conduction The Earth receives its energy from the sun through radiation The transfer of energy as electromagnetic waves.
R21 Global Warming & Greenhouse Effect Prior Knowledge: What do you know about Greenhouse Effect and Global Warming?
Heating of the Atmosphere. What is Thermal Energy? Thermal means “heat.” Thermal means “heat.” Thermal energy is the heat made when molecules move. The.
The Greenhouse Effect A large majority of the insolation that is radiated back into the atmosphere gets absorbed by greenhouse gases. A large majority.
Global Warming and the Greenhouse Effect Climate and Climate Change.
Is Global Warming caused by…. NO! Many think that the Ozone hole lets in more solar energy causing the earth to become warmer, but this is not true! Think.
Why do we care about the Keeling Curve? Lesson 1 Activity 3 1.
Greenhouse Gases and Energy Budget LP 3 1. What are greenhouse gases? Where do they come from? How do they work? 2.
Chapter 1 Section 2 Atmospheric Heating. Radiation The sun’s energy comes to us as radiation Radiation is the transfer of energy in waves This energy.
