Can animals think and reason like humans? Provide evidence of your thinking. Read the Time Magazine article “Can Animals Think?” by Eugene Linden and answer the following questions in paragraph form: Based on the article, how has your opinion strengthened or weakened? Explain. Should we reconsider how we treat animals based on the research in this article? Explain why or why not. TOTAL RESPONSE MUST BE AT LEAST HALF A PAGE

1) What is the POV? What is the narrator’s role in the Burmese village? 2) Is the opening paragraph indirect/direct characterization? Provide two examples and explain. 3) Identify the main internal conflict? 4) Is the narrator courageous? Explain. 5) List the word choice, diction, the author uses when describing the elephant being shot (4-5). What kinds of words do you notice? Why would Orwell use these types of words to describe the elephant? 6) Orwell describes the event in terms of a circus or a show. Why does Orwell do this? 7) Was justice served? Explain.
