Meetings and discussion with North Cornwall surf schools (tourism industry). AICSM - long-standing managerial and advisory input into SOTEAG (Shetland Oil Terminal) and St Fergus (Gas Receiving Terminal). Description of the concrete results/outcomes achieved Inclusion of surf schools in decision making process of North Cornwall ICZM. Coastal management advice integrated into both SOTEAG and St Fergus advisory committees. Wide-ranging internet search undertaken for contents of NW Europe Coastal Resource Centre. Internet search initiated for all on-line resources for Scotland for Digital Coastal Atlas. Description of the concrete results/outcomes achieved Draft web pages for discussion with other partners. Draft contents list incorporated into E-newsletter web pages for discussion with other partners. Preliminary assessment of use conflict re. beaches in North Cornwall. North Cornwall beach survey data collected in field. Questionnaire for North Cornwall beach users and stakeholders designed and sent out – returns awaited. Initiation of wide range of possible advisory work with Western Isles Council in relation to their developing coastal strategy Description of the concrete results/outcomes achieved North Cornwall digital data collected. North Cornwall beach survey data collected. Further meetings with Western Isles Council being planned for 2006

Assessment of use conflict re. beaches in North Cornwall undertaken. Mapped data for Grampian (Ythan estuary project) sourced. Search for data for Western Isles project initiated. Appropriate GIS software installed on dedicated computing facilities. Description of the concrete results/outcomes achieved GIS set-up for three projects (North Cornwall, Grampian and Western Isles) initiated.

Collaboration established with separate Aberdeen University project utilising historic weather records for assessment of impacts of climate change. Description of the concrete results/outcomes achieved Initial approval from Western Isles Council re. risk assessment project in the Uists. Involvement in project on historic weather records agreed. Invited paper given to Society of Chief officers of Transportation in Scotland on Risk Assessment of Coastal Flooding in Scotland

Description of how the action was implemented Meeting with Western Isles Council re. potential public participation projects (risk assessment project with Uist residents, Coastal Zone Youth Club project with Western Isles schools, teachers and students). Public participation & discussions with North Cornwall surf schools (local businesses) and beach users. Description of the concrete results/outcomes achieved Preliminary approval from Western Isles Council re. risk assessment and Coastal Zone Youth Club projects. Inclusion of surf schools (local business stakeholders) in decision making process of North Cornwall ICZM.

11 COastal REsearch & POlicy INTegration Corepoint Meeting 24 th /25 th October 05 Colchester Aberdeen: Summary of main activities & outcomes CoastGIS 2005 – preparation, organisation and presentations (DRG, WR & MC) Production of draft E-newsletter and draft web pages Production of MIRS (Media Information Resource Centre) document Preparation for research projects in North Cornwall, South West Cornwall (Fal Estuary) Western Isles, Aberdeenshire (NE Grampian Coastal Partnership, Aberdeenshire Council, Formartine Partnership) and Cork. Data collection in North Cornwall (questionnaire survey, time-based photographic snapshots, field visits, meetings) Data sourcing (North Cornwall) Set-up of GIS/DIP hardware and software to support research projects, E-newsletter and input to NW Europe Coastal Resource Centre Continued input into promotion of CZM by being involved in Scottish Coastal Forum. Appointment of Prof Ritchie to the Ministerial Working Group (Scottish Executive) on the Strategy for the Long Term Sustainability of Scotland’s Coasts and Seas (begins Nov 2005) Attendance and participation in proceedings of Corepoint Conferences and Working Groups in Cardiff and Colchester. Links to other projects and work e.g. Blue Flag (DRG) and EUCC (DRG) Preparation for ECO-IMAGINE Training Course in Aberdeen on GIS and CZM (postponed until 2007 Involvement in Oceans 21 initiative (with DRG/GISIG).
