1 Art – With Mrs Jones Self Portraits Hand and finger painting of trees in seasonal colours. Robo-lab to research seasonal colours. Experimenting with mixing paints and colours. Elmer elephants in seasonal colours. Drawings of plant associated with different seasons. Looking at the works of Andy Goldsworthy. Looking at animals in connection with the seasons. Science We will be looking at weather and seasonal changes, This will include animals and hibernation. The children will design and make rainfall collectors that they will use to experiment rainfall. We will also investigate everyday materials and look at dead and alive. Phonics The whole class will be working on phase 5 graphemes and words. The year 2 children will also be following the phase 6 programme of study which is appropriate for their age group. Phonics will include spellings this term so there will be no extra spellings sent home. English Seasonal Poems Local Author and Illustrator Visit – ‘My Magic Magnolia’. Fantasy Texts – ‘Shaun the Sheep’. Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar. RE Children will be considering who or what is special to them and why; who supports and guides us throughout our lives; what makes us joyful peaceful, reflective, happy and sad; how stories, prayers, music and songs help us to understand more about ourselves and ideas about god. We will also look at Christmas and how other cultures celebrate this festival. Geography Investigating seasonal changes and daily weather patterns. PE Netball Dodge ball Gymnastics Dance History Events beyond living memory – Bonfire night – story of Guy Fawkes. Educational Visits: Clip and Climb: team building and confidence through adventurous activity. Crediton Christmas Tree Festival at St Boniface Church: how different cultures celebrate Christmas/music and singing relating to KS1 nativity. Design Technology We will be planning, making and evaluating weather vanes. Maths Number and place value. Addition and subtraction. Multiplication and division. Money and measure Geometry. Fractions. Computing Typing up seasonal poems. Using programmes to make Christmas cards Music KS1 Nativity

2 History Pupils should be taught about: Hi1/1.2 events beyond living memory that are significant nationally or globally. (e.g. the Great Fire of London, the first aeroplane flight or events commemorated through festivals or anniversaries– Guy Fawkes). Links to New Curriculum Science Seasonal Changes Observe changes across the 4 seasons. Observe and describe weather associated with the seasons and how day length varies. Explore and compare the differences between things that are living, dead, and things that have never been alive. Identify that most living things live in habitats to which they are suited and describe how different habitats provide for the basic needs of different kinds of animals and plants, and how they depend on each other Identify and name a variety of plants and animals in their habitats, including microhabitats Describe how animals obtain their food from plants and other animals, using the idea of a simple food chain, and identify and name different sources of food. 3 Links to New Curriculum Geography Human and physical geography: Identify seasonal and daily weather patterns in the United Kingdom and the location of hot and cold areas of the world in relation to the Equator and the North and South Poles. Music Pupils should be taught to: Use their voices expressively and creatively by singing songs and speaking chants and rhymes. Play tuned and un-tuned instruments musically. Listen with concentration and understanding to a range of high-quality live and recorded music. Experiment with, create, select and combine sounds using the interrelated dimensions of music. Physical Education Sport & Games: Master basic movements including running, jumping, throwing and catching, as well as developing balance, agility and co-ordination, and begin to apply these in a range of activities Participate in team games, developing simple tactics for attacking and defending.
