Historical Context of Problem Britain promises two sides land Fighting quickly breaks out because Britain removes itself from the problem The United Nations pass Resolution 181 but Arabs quickly object because the Israelis would get more land than the Arabs After Israel declares itself an independent state, Jordan, Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, and Iraq invade, but ultimately lose much of the land the UN had set aside for Arabs.

Explanation of Problem Jews and Muslims both value Palestine because it is the “Holy land” Because of these high values, neither side wants to give up War has been getting worse over the years, with Intifada and suicide attacks

Video http://safari/?a=75692&ch=2&d=00173AA

Weakness: Jerusalem is very sacred to Muslims The Arabs would definitely revolt and war would break out Strength: Jews will have their own country The Wailing Wall is very sacred to Jews

Jews might start rebelling Palestine is supported by a terrorist group Hamas. Strength: Palestine gets their own state No more rebellion from Arabs Weakness: Jews don’t get their own independent state.

Strength – Jews and Arabs will get their own state European Union supports it War would stop Weakness – Palestinians want the full land Hezbollah refuses to accept western influence

Final Solution: Two-State Solution

Why It is Good  Greatest for both states  War would end  Fairness to both states  Less discrimination http://safari/?a=49151&ch=2&d=00761AA

Will It Work?  Has been tried before, Arabs revolted causing the plan not to work. Arabs aren't involved anymore.  Each side wouldn't let up the opportunity to have their own state, so of course they'd take it. People who are involved with both sides wouldn't want to pick a side to fight with, so that their losing an ally, and making an enemy.  http://safari/?a=49151&ch=2&d=00761AA http://safari/?a=49151&ch=2&d=00761AA
