DIABOLO PROJECT (I)  Improved access to Brussels National Airport with a rail infrastructure linking the airport to: All the stations in Brussels The entire Belgian railway network Several large European towns and cities (Lines: Amsterdam – Antwerp – Brussels – Paris and Frankfurt – Liège – Brussels – Paris)  Catalyst for economic development of the airport and surrounding areas 20 3. DIABOLO PROJECT (II)  A total investment of €540M  Infrabel has joined hands with private partners (€290M) to position Brussels Airport on the European high-speed arteries Paris / Amsterdam Paris / Frankfurt  PPP agreed on 28/09/2007/ € 290M by private sector. First PPP of this scale in Belgium The PPP Diabolo was recently concluded: Infrabel innovates and receives the PFI Award A PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP Diabolo The Netherlands Nossegem curve Line Frankfurt – Liège – Brussels – Paris Paris Germany 21 3. RER (I)  Will make the train one of the best modes of transport for reaching Brussels within a 30km radius of the capital  Will provide a comprehensive and logical transport solution both in and around Brussels The RER needs a large-scale expansion of the network’s capacity, and the development of a common policy towards ease of travel - New easy travel within a 30km radius of Brussels - 4 trains per hour at busy times - Fares integrated with other modes of transport - 120 modernised stations and halts, adapted trains 22 3.
