Contents FONT trip dates Set-up –Required hardware –Requested cables DR study EXT stripline study IP BPM study FONT Meeting2N. Blaskovic

FONT trip dates Young-Im: already at KEK Glenn:22 February – 1 March Neven:22 February – 15 March Mikey:26 February – 6 March Doug:27 February – 15 March FONT Meeting3N. Blaskovic

Set-up Two FONT5 boards, both in P2 area: –Board 1: Monitor MQF1X, MQF3X, MQD5X –Board 2: Monitor DR BPM, P2, P3 Instrument DR BPM: –With local processor –With asymmetrically variably attenuated strips SLAC/FONT switches on MQF1X, 3X, 5X FONT Meeting4N. Blaskovic

Hardware required Instrument DR BPM: –BPM processor (borrow from MFB1FF?) DR BPM variable attenuators: –2 Agilent 1 dB step variable attenuators –1 Agilent variable attenuator controller SLAC/FONT switches on MQF1X, 3X, 5X: –6 RF switches, with power cords –1 24 V power supply, with two T-connectors FONT Meeting5N. Blaskovic

Cable request Instrument DR BPM local processor: –1 Heliax (LO) from P2 area to DR BPM –3 RG58s (Δ, Σ I, Σ Q ) from DR BPM to P2 area DR BPM variable attenuator controller: –1 Ethernet cable connected to atf-local SLAC/FONT switches on MQF1X, 3X, 5X: –1 RG58 from power box to each of the BPMs FONT Meeting6N. Blaskovic

DR study Firmware options: –DR 2 17 turn firmware –Glenn’s new ~1000 sample firmware –Standard feedback firmware Calibrate DR BPM: –Bump scan with symmetric attenuation to verify 0.0025/um calibration constant –Use calibrated bump scan to calibrate BPM with optimum asymmetric attenuation FONT Meeting7N. Blaskovic

DR study Other than the calibration, the program is parasitic in 1-bunch mode: –Measure pulse-to-pulse jitter in DR –Measure turn-to-turn jitter in DR –Establish multi-turn DR BPM resolution –Monitor multi-turn DR BPM with P2 and P3 –Establish DR BPM, P2 and P3 resolution using different DR turns FONT Meeting8N. Blaskovic

EXT stripline BPM study In collaboration with Juergen: –Measure beam position correlation and jitter in extraction line using our BPM processors –Introduce large orbit bumps; monitor at BPM with SLAC electronics and elsewhere with our BPM processors (where instrumented) –Save DR BPM data FONT Meeting9N. Blaskovic

IP BPM study On shift, put FONT5 board 1 in S-band hut Instrument: –IPA (Y) I & Q –IPB (Y) I & Q –IPC (Y) I & Q –IPC (X) I & Q –Reference (Y) Slow orbit feedback on if in 1-bunch mode FONT Meeting10N. Blaskovic

IP BPM study Start by looking at one BPM only, e.g. IPC Iterate at 40 dB, then 20 dB, then 0 dB: –Rough calibration with waist close to BPM –Waist scan to find current for waist on BPM –Fine mover calibration with waist on BPM –Jitter run with waist on BPM Check calibration scaling with attenuation Check calibration using QD0FF mover FONT Meeting11N. Blaskovic

IP BPM study Whilst 2 FONT5 boards are available, instrumenting DR*, P2, P3 and IP allows: –Upstream-downstream position correlation –Upstream-downstream position resolution (only if resolutions are comparable!) –Upstream nominal coupled-loop feedback (requiring upstream kicker scans, and waist and second-bunch centre at given IP BPM) * Replace DR BPM by MFB1FF? FONT Meeting12N. Blaskovic
