2 Physical Activity Behaviour Change This lesson will help us to understand the strategies designed to impact on mediators of physical activity, with the ultimate goal of increasing or maintaining physical activity behaviour.

4 Individual approaches to physical activity promotion Print and web-based media Learning Activity: – Students have 10 minutes – In their books students are to write about a promotional item they have seen or have heard of. It can be printed or web-based. (what was it promoting, who was the target audience) – What are 2 positives and 2 negatives of web-based promotion? – Write a list of places where people can access printed promotional material

Counselling - GP or telephone counselling Strategies used in counselling: 1)Assessing motivational readiness 2)Matching process of change with motivational readiness 3)Identifying opportunities to be active 4)Contracting 5)Enlisting social support 6)Reminder systems 7)Gradual programming 8)Tailoring Learning Activity: Complete the questionnaire and questions (Pg 46-48, Figure 2.3) in the textbook.

6 Population-based approaches to physical activity promotion Environmental strategies Learning Activity: In groups think about your school or local area, identify environmental factors that have been created/modified to encourage physical activity (write or draw your answers on the butcher paper) - As a class discuss environmental changes that could be made to the school to encourage physical activity.
