2 Page 2 The guidance and counselling services in Romania are delivered by two important networks: -the network of educational services and -the network of employment services.

3 Page 3 The services are free of charge Target groups: - pre-primary students - primary and secondary school students - university students (for the education sector) - unemployed people (for the labour sector)

6 Page 6 RO Guidance and counselling system Schools: 41 County centres, 2700 school counsellors Started in 1991 Universities: 23 centres in the biggest univesities Started in 1997 Employment offices: 41 County centres, 70 local Agencies, 141 working points, 16 professional training centres (at county and regional level, the National Centre for the Professional Development of the ANOFM employes Rânov EURESS network - 23 Romanian counsellors Started in 1993 EUROGUIDANCE network – 4 counsellors Started in 1994

7 Page 7 Other entities offering vocational guidance and counselling in Romania: -the Probation Centres (under the Ministry of Justice) - career counselling for persons with disabilities -the guidance units in the private sector

8 Page 8 Occupational standards were developed for: -counsellors working with the unemployed people (1990) -school counsellors (2010) -or vocational counsellors (working with persons with disabilities – 2011)

9 Page 9 Innitial education of counsellors: School counsellors: Bachelor degree in: Psychology Pedagogy Sociology Counsellors in universities Psychology Other Bachelor degree + MD in Counselling Counsellors in employment offices Different backgrounds + trainings in Counselling

10 Page 10 Master degree studies in Guidance and Counselling are offered by the biggest public universities in Romania (Bucharest, Cluj, Timisoara, Iasi), Private higher education institutions, as the University Titu Maiorescu Bucharest. Students can choose the CREDIS Department within the Bucharest University if they want to study Guidance and counselling at distance. The PhD in Guidance and counselling can be obtained within Psychology or Educational Sciences Doctoral Schools in the biggest Romanian public universities (Bucharest, Cluj, Timisoara, Iasi).

11 Page 11 Accreditation and supervision is available only for psychology graduates. (www.copsi.ro, 2004).www.copsi.ro Another accreditation opportunity is offered by the NBCC Romania (www.nbcc.ro, 2005): individuals working in a variety of career consulting settings may apply for the Global Career Development Facilitator GCDF certificate.www.nbcc.ro Both accreditation schemes are related to initial and continuous education.
