2 History The Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF) is the nation's leading organization supporting Hispanic higher education. Founded in 1975, HSF's vision is to strengthen the country by advancing college education among Hispanic Americans.

3 Achievements HSF provides the Latino community more college scholarships and educational outreach support than any other organization in the country. During the 2007-2008 academic year, HSF awarded nearly 4,100 scholarships exceeding $26.6 million. In its 33-year history, HSF has awarded more than 86,000 scholarships worth more than $247 million to Latinos from all 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands attending nearly 2,000 colleges and universities.

4 Eligibility Requirements Eligibility Requirements Be a U.S. Citizen or legal permanent resident Have a minimum GPA of 3.0 (cumulative) Must apply for federal financial aid using the FAFSA Have plans to enroll FULL-TIME in a degree seeking program at a U.S. accredited institution in the Fall of 2009

6 Universal Application Academic and Personal Information Work experience and volunteer activities Degree(s) earned Current and intended institution Current and intended major(s) GPA and number of units completed Recommender’s name, email address and relationship to the student

7 HSF General Application Most scholarship applicants must fill out the General Application Applicants fill out 3 essay questions Responses are between 400-600 words Topics include “My Hispanic Heritage,” “Contributing to my Community,” & “Overcoming an Academic Challenge”

8 Co-Branded Programs After submitting out the General Application, applicants may be eligible for other programs. Additional information may be required. Some programs require a resume to determine potential for an internship.

9 Letter of Recommendation After the student submits their Universal Application, the recommender is contacted by HSF via email. Recommender must evaluate the student in 5 areas, state the nature of their relationship, and give an overall recommendation for the student. Recommendation must be submitted electronically by the posted deadline (may differ from application deadline).

10 Required Documents Required Documents POSTMARKED BY THE LISTED DEADLINE: Student Aid Report (SAR) (from the FAFSA) Official transcript Proof of residency (for permanent residents) SUBMITTED AFTER BEING SELECTED: Enrollment Verification Form
