2 MANEUVER SUPPORT CENTER DIRECTORATE OF TRAINING DEVELOPMENT 2 ADLU Overview MANSCEN CG approved the ADLU Implementation Plan on 20 October 2002 The plan authorizes a 60-day pilot that will evaluate the MANSEN ADLU student online-support infrastructure. The pilot is designed to demonstrate how to- Provide quality online student support to facilitate individual, collective, and self-development training anywhere and anytime Leverage cutting-edge DL technologies and methodologies to improve individual and unit readiness

3 MANEUVER SUPPORT CENTER DIRECTORATE OF TRAINING DEVELOPMENT 3 ADLU Internal Structure The plan implements the MANSCEN ADLU support team operational council consisting of representatives from key MANSCEN organizations that can assist in the standup of the ADLU and Phase 1 pilot The plan authorizes a strategic council (CoCs), chaired by the MANSCEN DOTD

4 MANEUVER SUPPORT CENTER DIRECTORATE OF TRAINING DEVELOPMENT 4 ADLU Help Desk The plan authorizes an ADLU help desk The help desk manned by MDD personnel and SME e-mentors 12x7 Student online support provided through e-mentoring and proactive learning facilitation E-mentors will actively monitor the student’s progress within Aspen LMS and by phone or e-mail E-mentors will answer content-related questions through ask-the-expert and shared e-note Aspen LMS functionality DCLT will provide a one day E-mentor orientation course prior to the Phase 1 implementation

5 MANEUVER SUPPORT CENTER DIRECTORATE OF TRAINING DEVELOPMENT 5 ADLU Pilot Courses Courses selected to be conducted during the pilot include- –NBC Defense Course (Chemical School) –12B10 Combat Engineer (Engineer School) –MP ANCOC (MP School)

6 MANEUVER SUPPORT CENTER DIRECTORATE OF TRAINING DEVELOPMENT 6 ADLU Pilot Course Locations Coordination is currently underway with TASS battalions to have the ADLU pilot course conducted at the following locations: 12B10 - Camp Grafton training site, Devil’s Lake, ND (9-24 May 03) NBC Defense Course - FLW (7-17 May 03) MP ANCOC - Fort Hunter-Liggett, CA (11-24 May 03) Students competing pilot the courses will receive ATRRS credit for attending the course (DA 1059)

7 MANEUVER SUPPORT CENTER DIRECTORATE OF TRAINING DEVELOPMENT 7 ADLU Phase 1 Pilot Timeline Student packets mailed mid March Students begin DL Phase 1 (1 Apr 03) –Complete prerequisite DL Phase 1 portion prior to attending resident phase –Students provided Aspen LMS login and password to allow them to gain access to the courseware Students begin ADT Phase 2 per the class schedule –Complete the TATS resident phase –Receives a DA Form 1059 upon successful completion of Phases 1 and 2 Conduct post-pilot activities (early Jun 03)

9 MANEUVER SUPPORT CENTER DIRECTORATE OF TRAINING DEVELOPMENT 9 Steps for Plan Execution During the Pilot: Ensure Aspen LMS automatically collects and records student-tracking data Document student-specific issues and concerns to the ADLU operations council during weekly meetings. Issue course evaluations and a student survey to students upon completion of the pilot course Record test scores, completion times, and completion percentages for resident versions of the ADLU pilot courses Identify cost information related to conducing the ADLU pilot, such as: cost for billeting, travel, instructor salary, facility usage, and administrative Record development times, deployment times, and revision/redeployment times (if applicable) for resident versions and ADLU DL phase Document help desk activity and incidents using Help Desk Incident Report forms Document overall staff support activities/time on task and task-specific support provided

10 MANEUVER SUPPORT CENTER DIRECTORATE OF TRAINING DEVELOPMENT 10 Steps for Plan Execution After the Pilot: Provide course evaluations and a MANSCEN ADLU post-pilot Student Survey to all students Collect course evaluations and a MANSCEN ADLU post-pilot Student Survey to compile ADLU report Conduct follow-up interviews with students as appropriate Tabulate Course evaluation results. ADLU test results will be passed on to the appropriate course manager. Conduct a post-pilot staff debriefing Compile and summarize information for each of the eight success measure goals into the post- pilot review report. Present post-pilot report to the strategic council for review Update ADLU implementation plan as direct in preparation to conduct the Phase 2 pilot

11 MANEUVER SUPPORT CENTER DIRECTORATE OF TRAINING DEVELOPMENT 11 Working Issues Work with the TASS school battalions to prepare them to execute the pilot course in May. Gain proponent approval for the planned course iteration Draft a proponent letter to gain TASS battalion support for Phase 1. Identify appropriate E-Mentors to staff help desk Develop and conduct E-Mentor training class Standup Help desk Develop Help desk data collection worksheets and forms as described in the ADLU success measures plan Develop student information packets Develop post-pilot student survey Establish ADLU work groups to assist in completing specific tasks Nominate school and center to personnel to fill key ADLU roles Discuss and set operational council meeting schedule Develop a list of issues for CoC resolution
