ANGELS Are angels male, female, neither? Why are they mentioned as male, and depicted as female?

Most Pictures - Female

Bible References - Male Genesis 18:2 Genesis 18:2 - So he lifted his eyes and looked, and behold, three men were standing by him; and when he saw them, he ran from the tent door to meet them, and bowed himself to the ground, Genesis 18:22 Genesis 18:22 - Then the men turned away from there and went toward Sodom, but Abraham still stood before the LORD.

Bible References - Male Genesis 19:1 - Genesis 19:1 - Now the two angels came to Sodom in the evening, and Lot was sitting in the gate of Sodom. When Lot saw them, he rose to meet them, and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground.

Bible References - Male Judges 13:21 - Judges 13:21 - When the Angel of the LORD appeared no more to Manoah and his wife, then Manoah knew that He was the Angel of the LORD. Luke 1:11-12 Luke 1:11-12 - 11 Then an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing on the right side of the altar of incense. 12 And when Zacharias saw him, he was troubled, and fear fell upon him.

Bible References – Female? Zechariah 5:9 – Zechariah 5:9 – Then I raised my eyes and looked, and there were two women, coming with the wind in their wings: for they had wings like the wings of a stork, and they lifted up the basket between earth and heaven. Are they angels? A vision They are not called angels

Jesus Statement Matthew 22:23-25 - Matthew 22:23-25 - 23 The same day the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to Him and asked Him, 24 saying: “Teacher, Moses said that if a man dies, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife and raise up offspring for his brother. 25 Now there were with us seven brothers. The first died after he had married, and having no offspring, left his wife to his brother. 26 Likewise the second also, and the third, even to the seventh. 27 Last of all the woman died also. 28 Therefore, in the resurrection, whose wife of the seven will she be? For they all had her.”

Jesus Statement Matthew 22:29-30 - Matthew 22:29-30 - 29 Jesus answered and said to them, “You are mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God. 30 For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels of God in heaven. How will we be “like the angels”? We will not marry – not be given in marriage. There will be no grooms or brides.

Male or Female? “There are no feminine angels in the Bible. Nor do they ever take the form of children or infants like the cherubs of popular art and culture. The only two angels that are named in the Bible have masculine names, Michael and Gabriel. They usually appear as young men in shining white garments. This isn’t the only form they take, of course, but it seems to be the norm.”

Male or Female? “However, this one qualification needs to be added. Remember that angels are spirit beings and that gender is a product of our physical bodies. Thus, angels are not truly masculine or feminine, but when they assumed human form in Scripture, it was typically as described earlier, but never as women or children.” Travis L. Quertermous

Conclusion It is difficult for humans to comprehend the spiritual world. It is believed that because of their kindness, tenderness, and compassion – artists have chosen the feminine form to illustrate angels. When we get to heaven – we will be like the angels.
