All rights reserved Page 15 Three single cameras covering 1 mile in both directions – over 6000 vehicles per day  Target group is rat-runs rather than local residents  Second camera positioned to monitor traffic leaving at Lewesdon Drive – rat run  New signage designed by local school children  Back-office hosted at Siemens facilities – all passage data collated  Installed in September 2010 for a period of six months

All rights reserved Page 16 Six month trial is now complete – the results have been very encouraging  Operational objectives have been met and positive response from all stakeholders  Three independent traffic speed surveys over the six month trial – 415,818 measurements  Significant reduction in average number of vehicles speeding above 40mph during each school peak hour*  Pre Trial: 64 vehicles  November: 16 vehicles  March:21 vehicles  Significant reduction in 85 percentile in vehicle speed during each school peak hour*  Pre Trial: 34.5 mph  November: 29.7 mph  March:28.2 mph *08:00-0900 and 15:00-16:00

All rights reserved Page 18 Springdale Trial – Key findings  Implementation of SafeZone system has had significant impact on reducing vehicle speed  SafeZone has a greater impact than previous road safety interventions  Partnership approach has demonstrated how to build an inclusive approach and change public perceptions to enforcement  SafeZone presents to an opportunity to promote Road Safety within the community and curriculum
