2 A balanced chemical equation can be interpreted in numbers of molecules, but generally chemists interpret equations as “mole-to-mole” relationships. 2H 2 (g) + O 2 (g) → 2H 2 O (l) In the equation above: 2 moles of hydrogen gas and 1 mole of oxygen gas produce 2 moles of liquid water.
