1 Celebrations and Festival: Autumn 2 This half term we will be looking at celebrations in different communities. We will be sharing stories about birthdays, Eid, Diwali and Christmas. We will also be observing change in the seasons. Springfield Nursery

2 Personal, Social, Emotional Development: Working as a team to complete a task i.e. big parachute games, throwing and catching, hide and seek and treasure hut. We will encourage children to be interested in others play and starting to join in. Collecting leaves and other autumnal artefacts from the playground and park e.g. conkers, twigs. Circle time to identify different emotions. Communication and language: To listen to onomatopoeic sounds: Fireworks, wizz, pop, bang etc. Repetitive stories, rhymes and songs. Opportunities to communicate about the things they have experienced and sharing their thoughts with their group and wider school (making videos, talking to reception on webcam). In language land the children will be learning new vocabulary which they can use and apply in a range of activities they will be involved in, e.g. cooking and local visits. Physical Development-Health and self care: Firework/ string painting. Making clay Diwali pots. Carving pumpkins: Safety awareness. Draw lines and circles using gross motor movements Physical Development:- Moving and handling: Encourage climbing, rolling, crawling In the outdoor environment/ hall time. Use different materials to develop gross motor skills. Introduce a range of tools (paint brushes, paint pens, scissors, pencils) and model how they are to be used. 3 Reading: The children will be reading a selection of books which will explore the theme. Not only will we be exploring these stories to develop the children's understanding of the topic but we will begin to talk about the elements of the story (characters, what happens at the beginning/end.). The children will then be able to use these elements in their stories. Writing: We will be encouraging the children to share their ideas through writing. The children will be making books to share their ideas with others. The children will also be sending lots of cards and invitations to their family and friends. We will be encouraging the children to practice writing their names with their special name cards everyday. Recipe writing for cooking. Numbers: The children will develop their number recognition skills, we will be matching these numbers to quantities. We will be focusing on developing a good understanding of quantity by playing with a range of objects and identifying who has more or less. Shape, space and measure: We will be focussing on shapes in the environment. We will encourage the children to describe the shapes, we will be going on a shape hunt around the school. 4 Understating the world- people,communities and the world: The children will be learning about Diwali, Christmas, Eid and how they are celebrated. We will visit a range of places in the local area (park, shop, river, post office) not only learn about the environment. As part of our exploration of festivals we will explore light and dark (fireworks, Diwali- festival of light, Christmas- Christmas lights). Understanding the world- Technology: The children will use computers, iPads and cameras to record their work and experiences. Dark Den: use of torches and other light sources in the role-play area. Expressive arts and design: The children will continue to learn how to use a range of art materials and resources. We will encourage children to talk about what they have created and how they can make it better. Expressive arts and design- Dance and Music: Continue to explore musical instruments. Encourage movement and dance. Listen to music daily. We will be acting out the stories that we read and making props to support this play. The children will be learning songs and rhymes. 5 Parental involvement: Home visits. Parents are encouraged to spend 15 minutes for story time. EYFS meetings for parents. Reading meetings. Parents meetings.
